[STORY] FOR BETTER FOR WORSE (Episode 08)

Episode 08.

When it was obvious my life is at stake I called my pastor. Though I didn’t inform him about what I have been through in my marriage. He was in the hospital with the women leader within a short time. He went to the doctor’s office immediately, signed the necessary documents and called the church secretary to arrange for money to commence the surgery.

Two hours later she came with the sum of N250,000. The pastor and other brethren held my hands to pray for me before I was wheeled to the theater.

The operation was successful. When I woke up I saw many of our church members surrounded my bedside. Aisha too was there. I tried to sit up to greet them but I couldn’t. The smiles on their faces encouraged me. They prayed with me, share the word of God with me and my countenance got a booster.

Few minutes later, Victor stormed the hospital with two police men. Who is Joshua Fred? They asked. Pastor raised his hand, I’m Pastor Fred, how may I help you, he replied. You are under arrest sir. Everyone in the ward were shocked, arrest for what, some members chorused. Victor came to arrest my pastor for signing the surgery documents without his consent. The police officers were polite seeing he is a pastor. They pleaded he should please follow them to the station and he did. One hour later he was released.

I didn’t know my mom was already on the way. Aisha had told her everything that happened. Mama came to the hospital with a long face. She dropped her bag and went out hurriedly. I know my mom very well and I knew she was up to something. She has gone to arrest Victor for all he did to me. He spent three days in police custody before he was released on bail.

His parents came around too. They were not aware of all the bad treatments Victor had melted on me. Neither were they aware I was admitted into the hospital until they came to Lagos.

The last time my mother-in-law visited I tried as much as possible not to let her know anything about my predicaments. She was shocked hearing all that Victor had done to me. She went on her knees and begged me. My daughter, you should have told us all these, why did you keep all these to yourself? She felt very bad and remorseful.

I was discharged and a family meeting was held in Ibadan where Victor’s parents live. I will tell you the outcome of the meeting in Episode 9…
