[STORY] FOR BETTER FOR WORSE (Episode 05)

Episode 05.

I made up my mind to stay and fight for my marriage. I won’t go anywhere again, I won’t let history repeat itself. My mom left her husband, I, Anita won’t leave mine. The devil is a liar, he can’t steal my joy and marriage. I picked my Bible to search for scriptures that will strengthen my faith for the battle ahead.

Philippians 4:13
I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

Psalm 144:1
Blessed be the the Lord my strength, which teacheth my hands to war, and my fingers to fight.

Isaiah 41:10
Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

I held onto these bible passages as my weapons. I began a daily fasting with rigorous prayers to recover my marriage. The more I fast and pray, the more Victor hurts me. I made up my mind I won’t stop the prayer no matter what he does. Many times he didn’t let me concentrate on the fasting because of his lust. Even when I told him I was fasting he would still rape me. This continued for about a month then I became terribly sick. I was diagnosed of chronic ulcer with terrible back pain.

I was ill for two weeks and almost dying but my husband was not aware. Rather he kept sleeping with me in my pain. My mom called to check on me on the day I thought of ending it all. I knew suicide is a sin but I needed it more than I needed my life. My mom was sensitive and could read my pains through my voice. Anita, I’m your mother, tell me the truth, are you okay? I’m fine mom, I replied. When last did you see your menses? She asked. Mummy, I’m not pregnant, I’m fine. She was restless after the call.

She kept calling back every two hours to check on me. Two days later my mom called me, Anita, I’m in Ojota, send me your house address or send someone to come and pick me at the park. Mama travelled all the way from Ilesha without telling me she was coming. I quickly dressed up and took a chartered cab to Ojota. When mama saw me she almost couldn’t recognize me until I spoke up. Anita, what happened to you? Her hand bag dropped off her hand. Tick tears rolled out from her eyes. We entered into the cab and we headed to the house. Through out the journey mama was crying and couldn’t open her mouth to talk to me.

Anita, what happened to you? Are you sick? she asked me. No mama. Are you having problem with your husband? No mama. Then why are you so lean? I didn’t want to tell my mom all that has happened because she won’t let me stay one day further. She left her marriage, she will push me to leave mine too. For two days mama kept asking all manner of questions but I refused to tell her what I have been through. Mama didn’t suspect anything between me and my husband because of Victor’s disposition. He was hospitable, nice and treated mama like a Queen. Victor has PhD in pretence, so it was difficult for mama to relate.

Mama spent one week with us. She took me to the hospital and she was told I had chronic ulcer. Is your husband not aware you are sick? Mama asked me. I kept mute for sometime thinking of what to tell mama so she won’t suspect what was going on in my marriage. No, he is not aware because I didn’t tell him, I replied. The way she looked at me I knew she will soon discover everything. I held back my tears.

Should I tell my mom? Telling her is like ending the marriage. She will never let me return back to my marriage again. I became confused
