[STORY] FOR BETTER FOR WORSE (Episode 06)

Episode 06.

Aisha came to the house the day mama was to leave for Ilesha. Mama took Aisha out for a chat. I was worried Aisha would tell mama everything she knew about my marriage. For two hours they were still talking and I began to notice mama voice was going up so I moved close.

Anita, go and arrange your important loads, you are going with me tomorrow. Mama said to me authoritatively. Mama, I’m not going anywhere, this is my husband’s house. I won’t leave my marriage like you left yours. Mama got angry, stood up and gave me a dirty slap.

I was angry with Aisha for telling my mom all I have been through in my marriage. Mama went inside and began to arrange my things herself. When my husband came back from work he realized my things was arranged along with mama’s bag. He went straight to mama’s room, good evening ma, he greeted. Mama did not answer him a word. Mama, I’m greeting you, he repeated.

Stop greeting me, you wicked animal. Mama began to rain insults and curses on Victor. I thought you are human, I didn’t know you are a beast. In all these insults and curses he didn’t open his mouth to say anything.

I had mixed feelings, I was happy and sad at the same time. I was happy because no one had ever challenged Victor or rebuked him for treating me this way. I was unhappy because my mom won’t let me stay to fight for my marriage.

He begged mama to forgive him and let me stay back. He made many promises and vowed never to treat me badly again. Mama gave him conditions and he consented to all. Mama eventually agreed to let me stay back. She begged Aisha to keep eyes on me and ensure she report to her of any maltreatment from my husband.

My husband became a good boy after mama left. For the first time after two years of our marriage I felt like a woman. He treated me nicely, he stopped raping me, he took me back to the hospital for further medical check up. That month I missed my period for the first time. I became pregnant within the two months of peace in my marriage. Unfortunately the peace didn’t last.
