[STORY] FOR BETTER FOR WORSE (Episode 02)

Episode 02.

I am calling off this marriage before this crowd disperse, I told Aisha. She begged me not to do such a thing. How can you call off a marriage that was contracted few hours ago? She challenged me. There’s no marriage without its up and down, you just started the journey.

We can handle this Anita. Wipe away your tears, they are calling for couple dance, let’s go, she dragged me back to the podium. I hated Victor immediately, my happiness turned into sorrow in a jiffy. The attendees won’t even understand if I call the wedding off. I manged to pretend like nothing happened, I got into the the podium to dance a love dance with a man who just slapped me. His face didn’t show any remorse, he danced like nothing happened.

My mind began to fast forward, what will happen to me if I continue in this marriage? Everyone present thought I was happy. I was the saddest woman on the day of my wedding. I nursed the idea of running away after the wedding but that will bring me to a public ridicule, so I changed my mind.

We were drove straight to our hotel room after the wedding. I had asked Aisha to be around the hotel. She made a room reservation and joined us two hours later. I didn’t say a word to Victor for all the time we stayed in the hotel. I refused to join him on the bed.

At about 11pm, he came to join me on the three seaters couch in the hotel room. His face said it all, he wanted sex. His hand went down my jeans zip, what are you trying to do, I asked him. Make love to my wife of course, he answered with confidence. Who is your wife? The woman you slapped on her wedding day or who? I violently removed his hand off my body. He struggled with me, he attempted raping me but I began to scream on top of my voice, then Aisha and some staff of the hotel were already gathered at the door. He held me down with his right hand as he rained blows on me with his left hand. The hotel manager forced the door opened and rescued me from his hands.

None of them understand except Aisha. They knew we just wedded, but they can’t understand why making love will be an issue between a just wedded couple. Aisha took me to her room and locked me up. She came back at about 12:23am after a chat with Victor. She came to beg me on his behalf but I made up my mind I won’t let him touch me. I slept in Aisha room that night. Before 7am, pastor and women leader of our church were already in the hotel room.

Victor had invited them, telling them I refused him from making love to me. He didn’t tell them about the slap. They didn’t give me opportunity to say a word. They insisted I must give my body to my husband.

They insulted me, they begged him not to be angry and insisted they won’t leave until we do our first conjugal obligation. Pastor asked us to go inside and do like husband and wife while they wait at the reception. We went in as instructed, he made love to me against my wish. He was happy and satisfied but I became more bitter and hurt. After he dressed up, he went to the reception to call them in.

They asked if he has made me a woman and he said yes. They all smile, their smell went into my heart like an arrow of fire. My heart ached like it will pull out of my chest. They counseled us on important of sex in marriage and left.

This was the beginning of my sorrow. Anytime I see Victor I see a monster. My bitterness grew to fear and depression. Aisha kept encouraging me with the oath “for better for worse”.
