Boniface recalls spending N30 to watch Champions League matches
Victor Boniface, a striker for the Super Eagles and Bayer Leverkusen, tweeted his happiness at participating in his first Champions League match during his team’s 4-0 victory over Feyenoord on Thursday.
In a post published on Friday that was taken from Fabrizio Romano’s X account, Boniface looked back on his life’s path and recalled how, as a young football player, he used to pay N30 to watch Champions League matches. Now, he is participating in the same league, fulfilling a lifelong ambition.
He said: “From paying 30 naira to watch the Champions League… to playing my first Champions League game. Proud of this moment.”
It is worth recalling that the German club signed Boniface from Union SG to Bayer Leverkusen in 2023 in a deal worth over €21.7m.
Leverkusen will host Wolfsburg on Sunday as they aim to defend the Bundesliga title they won last year, ending Bayern Munich’s run of 11 successive league titles.
