Avatar: The Way Of Water trailer
Movie fans, it’s time to get excited as the first full trailer has dropped for the upcoming Avatar sequel, The Way Of Water.
Director James Cameron is finally taking us back to the mystical planet of Pandora, almost 13 years after the first film hit the big screen – and transformed cinema as we knew it.
In a new teaser, we are instantly transported to the stunning world that the Sully family inhabit, and reintroduced to Jake (Sam Worthington), Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) and their brood of children.
In one scene, after showcasing their neighborhood, Jake could be seen teaching his daughter to hunt using a bow.
‘Dad, I know you think I’m crazy but I feel her. I hear her heartbeat. She is so close,’ she tells him.
‘So what does her heartbeat sound like?,’ he questions, to which she replies: ‘Mighty’.
However, the family appear to be on the brink of a huge battle to keep their way of life safe from others, and very little help in the ‘war’ to save themselves.
Amid glimpses of burning fires and huge destruction, the family are cryptically warned: ‘We cannot let you bring your war here.’
Will Jake and Neytiri be able to kept their family, and their beloved home, safe from tragedy?
The official synopsis reads: ‘With Avatar: The Way of Water, the cinematic experience reaches new heights as Cameron transports audiences back to the magnificent world of Pandora in a spectacular and stirring action-packed adventure.
‘Set more than a decade after the events of the first film, Avatar: The Way of Water begins to tell the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri, and their kids), the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure.’
Zoe and Sam have reprised their roles in the epic, which has been in production for years, while Sigourney Weaver, Edie Falco, Bailey Bass and Kate Winslet are also among the cast.
Avatar made a huge splash when it was originally released in 2009, becoming the highest-grossing film for nearly a decade.
The sci-fi flick took home three Oscars, including the coveted trophy for best visual effects.
Soon after, a sequel was confirmed but has taken 13 years to finally come to fruition.
Speaking about the huge gap between the two, James revealed that he worked on one script for an entire year before eventually scrapping it and starting again.
‘All films work on different levels. The first is surface, which is character, problem, and resolution,’ the filmmaker told the Times.
‘The second is thematic. What is the movie trying to say? But Avatar also works on a third level, the subconscious.
‘I wrote an entire script for the sequel, read it, and realized that it did not get to level three.
‘Boom. Start over. That took a year.’
Avatar: The Way Of Water will be released in cinemas on December 16.
