Rihanna teases new song ahead of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack

No, your ears aren’t deceiving you – Rihanna has released a teaser for her brand new single.

The Work singer gave fans just a few hours to digest the news that they’ll be getting new music from her before dropping a snippet of the song, which will feature on the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack.

Spanning just 14 seconds, Rihanna doesn’t give too much away with only her humming – albeit, very tuneful humming – heard before the clip fades to black.

The full track, titled Lift Me Up, will receive its full premiere on Friday.

Reacting to the new Rihanna, one fan joked: ‘It’s that a song?… album?…lingerie?… or Makeup?… the world may neva know until the 28.’

Another cheered: ‘I love you so much thanks for saving music again!!!!’

One other said: ‘The queen is back. congratulations to all the navy who survived this past years.’

Summing up pretty much everyone’s shock, one fan tweeted: ‘I can’t believe my eyes rihanna is actually not playing games this time.’

Earlier this month, rumours began that Rihanna has two songs on the soundtrack to the Black Panther sequel.

Fans were quick to conclude that the R in the video confirmed that they may finally get some new music from the Diamonds star, whose last album, Anti, was released in 2016 and her last single as a lead artist, Wild Thoughts, dropped in 2017.

Fans had spent years waiting for confirmation of new music after Rihanna continually teased projects which turned out not to be an album, but launches for her make-up and clothing lines.

The singer even leaned in to the frustration felt by fans who have been waiting years for new music from her by trolling them, including in December 2019 when she shared a video of a dog dancing, joking: ‘Update: me listening to R9 by myself and refusing to release it.’

The soundtrack for the Black Panther soundtrack has big boots to fill as the last one, released in 2018, was curated by Kendrick Lamar and received eight Grammy nominations including album of the year. It won two – best rap performance for King’s Dead by Lamar, Future, James Blake and Jay Rock and best score soundtrack for visual media.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will be the first instalment without lead star Chadwick Boseman, who died in August 2020 following a private battle with colon cancer. A recent trailer teased his replacement as Black Panther, with rumours rife that it’ll be a female character.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever hits cinemas on November 11.
