Would An English Team Win the UEFA Champions League This Season?
As the season is getting close, we are on course to see the final rounds of the UCL season. Competitions around Europe are hitting up. As some bettors are looking towards NASCAR odds, F1 races, and other sports in the early stages, some soccer fans continue to bet on these tough ties.
The battle is now between Spain and England, with the defending champions, Chelsea, out of the competition after narrowly losing to Real Madrid. We have two Spanish and two English teams in the Semis, meaning there is a chance to have an all-final. However, after the first leg of the semi-final rounds, the English teams have an edge, and we are gearing into a back-to-back all-English final.
If both teams can avoid defeats, we will see the UEFA Champions League trophy stay in the premier league for another year. As we prepare for the second leg matches, let’s look at the chances of seeing another English team lift the trophy, and maybe this time, it will be a new name on the UCL cup. Without further ado, let’s dive right in!
UCL Semi-Final Second Leg
The first leg of the semis was an interesting one. Both matches had hype, but Manchester City hosting Real Madrid was the spotlight of the round. The game started heating up when City went 2-0 up before the 30 minutes mark. A sumptuous Benzema strike gave the 13-times champions a lifeline.
In the second half, City quickly went up 3-1, but a Vinicius solo goal kept Madrid alive. However, a goal from Foden gave City their 2-goal lead back, but that didn’t last as Benzema slotted in his second of the night from the penalty spot. So, there is all to play for this second leg. The Liverpool and Villareal game, on the other hand, didn’t have much action.
Liverpool pegged Villareal back from the first minute, and even though the Yellow Submarines tried to hold on, they conceded two goals in the night. As a result, they have a mountain to climb when Liverpool visits them at home.
Liverpool and their Quadruple Dream
Liverpool can do the unthinkable this season as they are still alive in every competition they started. In addition, they’ve already won the Carabao cup. All they need now is to win their next two UCL games, the FA Cup final against Chelsea, and hope to claim all points in the EPL as the leaders slip up in the last four games.
However, this will not be an easy task, but there is a good chance that they will make it to their third final this year. They have to give 100% for their remaining matches, and all of them will come this month, making it very difficult. The work will be on Klopp to manage his team well to ensure they’re not tired or injured. It is an interesting season for the team and fans.
Man City’s Quest for European Championship
Manchester City can win two trophies this season. Both trophies remain in their control, but they cannot afford any slip-up in the coming matches; with Liverpool on their tail, they need to bring a 100% to every match. In addition, as they travel to the Bernabeu, they need to be a solid side and ensure they don’t concede early to Madrid.
After winning this weekend, they maintain their hold on the EPL title, and as a result, they can focus on playing Real Madrid. Also, they have a big squad, making it easy for Pep to rotate his team and give his key players the rest they deserve.
Premier League Heat
Every soccer fan in the world knows how competitive and tough the English Premier League can get. As a result, it will be a tough four weeks for the title contenders. None of them can afford to slip up, making it more complicated as they also have to worry about other competitions.
In that case, the heat from the EPL would also play a significant part as both teams look to win the UCL this season. The two teams need wins in their remaining four games to have a shot at winning the league.
Our Thoughts
Both teams face Spanish teams, and they would have their work cut out for them as they travel to Spain. The teams will need to bring their A-game to make it to the final, although it would be easier for Liverpool since they are already two goals up in the second leg.
However, Man City must learn from PSG and Chelsea to not make the same mistakes they did against Real Madrid if they want to make it to the final. But we think that the teams can do what needs to be done, and we will see another all-English final with Manchester City featuring again.
