[STORY] BEHIND CHURCH DOORS (Episode 48)

Episode 48.

PASTOR RUTH
A week later,
My head is throbbing. And my heart is racing, thumping so hard that I can hear it in my own ears. I have just finished watching a documentary on Television titled, “Exposing the Cultists disguised as men of God.”

When Missy threatened to ruin my husband and our ministry, I thought she was bluffing but after watching the documentary she put up, I know she means business. Missy sure did her homework , I don’t know how I will get my husband and I out of this mess.

She has literally washed all of our dirty linen in public. And now my phone is buzzing non stop with texts and calls from different numbers. I can’t pick up neither can I respond to the messages, they have watched and heard everything. There’s nothing I could tell people at this point. I feel like I have been striped naked in public.

The past one week has been emotionally exhausting for me. I have been up and about trying to find a way to get my husband out of this mess but to no avail. I couldn’t even get in touch with most of the families that we have issues with. It’s like they just disappeared into thin air.

From what I gathered Missy is an investigative journalist, she was planted at the church as a spy. I couldn’t do anything to shut her up because she is obviously protected and we would get in trouble if anything happened to her.

We have people praying for us from all over the world. We have people outside the house, they have been around for some time offering their support and prayers too. Those people have helped to keep us sane. I know Kingsely is guilty but he loves the church and has been a father to most of the people for years now. It’s a shame that it has to end like this. .
“Did you see that?” He asks when he storms into the bedroom. “Did you see all the trash she said about me? You have failed me Ruth.”

I open my mouth so I can respond but nothing comes out of it, I am speechless. After everything I have been doing to get him out for his mess, he has the guts to blame me.
“You should have tried harder.”
“You should have kept your trousers zipped,” I shot back. “We are in this mess because of your list Kingsely, how many times did I warn you?”
“This is not the time to point fingers at each other . What are we going to do?”
“Honestly I don’t know.”
“What do you mean you don’t know? You always have a solution.”
“Maybe this time around I don’t have one.”
“What is that even supposed to mean?”
“I am tired, Kingsley. I am tired, I have no more to offer, no more fight left in me. Just let the law take its course.”
He stares at me speechless.
Sinking to the floor, I pull off my wedding ring and throw it on the ground. And tears begin to fill my eyes, They pour down cheeks, And my heart is sobbing pitifully- this is the end I can feel it.
“You can’t give up on me. You can’t give up on us Ruth,” be pleads as he kneels besides me and holds me in his arms.
“This is my fault, I shouldn’t have cleaned up after you in the first place. I shouldn’t have put up with all this,” I say between sobs.
“Ma,” Leah calls on the other side.
“Yes?”
“The police are here.”
Kingsely and I exchange a knowing glance before I respond,” we will be out in a minute.”
“Okay.”
“I did all I could to get you out but Missy was just several steps ahead,” wiping my face with my hand. “I will probably be arrested too, Pastor G too and many others that have been mentioned.”
He stands up, “my lawyers will do their best to get us out I promise.”
We walk out of the bedroom and head towards the living room where two police men are waiting for us.
“Bishop Kingsley! You are under arrest for Sexual harrasment, defilement and man slaughter.You have the right to remain silent . Anything you say can be used against you in court. You have a right to talk to a lawyer for advice before we ask you any questions, and to have him with you during questioning. If you can’t afford an attorney, one can be assigned to you prior to any questioning if you so desire.”
Then they handcuff him and lead him away. Moments later, we hear screaming and yelling. Our spiritual sons and daughters are yelling, “He is not guilty. He is not guilty. Let him go.”

I walk out of the house and address the situation, asking them to be calm and to allow the police to do their duty.

After my husband is taken away, I start to feel surreal, like everything around me is a dream. I’m asking myself, “Is this my life? Is this what I signed up for?”
“Ma! Are you okay?” Leah asks.
“I need to sit down for a bit. Get me some water.”

She helps me sit down before she disappears into the kitchen and comes back with a glass of water.
“Thank you,” I say, taking a large gulp.
“Get my phone and call the lawyer. Tell him your father has been arrested and he needs to go to the police station.”
“Okay.”
“He will be going there right away.”
“Aren’t you going to the station?”
“I will later.”
“He is guilty right?He has a child out of wedlock. And he caused the death of that girl after he got pregnant? He is guilty of all the accusations and you know it? He had an affair not only with that Tia woman but a lot of ladies from the church. The defilement cases,” Leah gives me a disgusted look.
“You wouldn’t understand.”
“Sophia was right?”
“Leah, listen, he is still your father.”
She shakes her head, “I am very disappointed in the both of you. This mess will ruin our lives, couldn’t you have thought of us before doing all that?”
“Leah?”
“I am done mum,” she yells before she walks out of the house, slamming the door hard behind her back. This is the end I can feel it, they will be coming for me soon, I have been an accomplice in all of these cases, lord I should have left when I had the time.
