[STORY] BEHIND CHURCH DOORS (Episode 29)

Episode 29.

TIA

I got home early from work in time to prepare dinner for Zyair before he knocked off. I am trying to make up for all the fights we have been having and like Sanna said, I need to constantly nurture my marriage and separate it from my relationship with Bishop.

From now onwards I plan on having weekly date nights with Zyair, I believe those will enable us to stay close amid the stress of work, and life.

The last couple of days, Bishop hasn’t been to the office, he says he is working from home. There are issues he is trying to sort out. I wonder what happened, we are supposed to meet Sunday night, I can’t wait to spend some time with him.

It’s almost 19 when Zyair walks into the house, the food is ready and I have already set the table. He gets home a bit late now that he has a stable job, not that I am complaining, I am actually glad that things are finally falling into place in this marriage.

We are obviously going to be moving to a bigger house next month and Bishop promised to get me a car when I start school in two months time. I am yet to start taking driving lessons, I want to have my license by the time the car comes.
“Hey baby,” I smile standing up from the couch to welcome him.
“Hey,” he kisses me lightly and I get his briefcase from him.
“How was work?”
“Great. You?”
“It was okay.
“I am starving, I didn’t have time to grab something during lunch, we had a meeting.”
“Well my husband, supper has already been prepared.”
“Let me just freshen up and then we can have supper together.”
“Okay” I walk him into the bedroom and while he takes his shower, I sit on the bed and start typing away on my phone.

Sanna is telling me all about a new guy she met online a couple of days ago that wants to take her on a date over the weekend. She says he is young and handsome, she just isn’t sure if he has money. I am trying to convince her to give him a try, who knows he might be the guy to marry her.

“I will give it a try but if I discover that he is poor I am not giving him any chance. No offense but I don’t want to be stuck in a moneyless marriage,” she texts.
I am about to respond to her text when suddenly, Zyair’s phone rings, and I snatch it up at once. The name Pacey flashes on the screen. “Hello?”
“Hello, I wanted to speak to Zyair?”
“I am his wife, what do you want?”
“There’s just something I needed his input on.”
“And who are you if I may ask?”
“We work together, I just needed help with..”
“What’s your name?” I cut her off.
“Pacey.”
“Pacey, have you checked what time it is?”
“Yes I have and I am sorry for calling him this late but this is important and…”
“You don’t my husband after working hours, am I clear?”
“Yes.”
“And please it’s Mr. Chitangala to you and not Zyair,” I click my tongue before I hang up.
What sort of workmates call after working hours and she had the guts to refer to him as just Zyair. I just hope this job doesn’t change this man and he starts misbehaving.
“Babe!” He taps me on the shoulder and I jump around startled out of my thoughts.
“Oh my God, Zyair..you scared me.”
“Didn’t you hear me? I am sorry.”
“No I didn’t.”
“What’s on your mind? You seemed like you were deep in thought.”
“Pacey called,” I say angrily.
“Oh she did? Did you answer the phone?”
“Who is she and what does she want?”
“She is an intern. There’s a report she is working on that I promised to help out with if she got stuck.”
“And so she has to call you after working hours? For a stupid report?”
“Tia! What is that supposed to mean?”
I shrug,” I don’t know. You tell me.”
“Oh so you think I am cheating?”
“Your words not mine.”
He laughs,” You amaze me you know.”
“Oh, tell me about it.”
“Baby, are you jealous?” He grins.
I frown,” No I am not. I just don’t like when…,”
He comes closer until he’s right in front of me, ” there’s no need to be jealous. I would never cheat on you. Even if I stopped loving you, I would probably walk away before I consider cheating on you, you should know me better than that.”
I roll my eyes
He leans in and lightly kisses me,” I love you.”
“The feeling is mutual.”
“I hate it when you respond like that.”
I laugh,” I love you too.”
He finishes getting dressed and we head out to have our supper. We are sitting at the table, eating when I say,” you will have to apologize to your Pacey when you talk to her again.”
“Why?”
“I was sort of rude to her.”
“Tia?”
“Well I thought she was some whore.”
“I really don’t want to argue tonight. I will talk to Pacey at the office tomorrow and if her calling me after working hours affects you this much then it won’t happen again.”
“Thank you.”
“Happy?”
“Yes,” I excitedly smile.
We eat the rest of the meal quietly and when we are done, I clear the table and he helps with cleaning the kitchen.
“What do you want to do tonight?” I ask.
“I am not really up for a movie tonight. Let’s go to bed,” he winks.
“Pervert!” I hit him.
He laughs and undresses me, kissing my neck as we make our way into the bedroom. In the bedroom, he lays me on the bed, stares at me and smiles. Then he undresses.
Finally he climbs on the bed and lies on top of me. Zyair kisses me and licks every part of my body. When he finally enters me, it feels so natural and right, I think he is getting better at this everyday. We make love for hours.

“I am worried about Sophia. We haven’t heard from her in two days and she isn’t at school.”
“Let’s give her time, she will come around eventually.”
“And what if she doesn’t?”
“She will, I don’t think she has enough money to keep her going for a long time. I froze her accounts, remember? Plus she doesn’t even have a phone. She will come back home.”
“You know this is your fault? Pastor G should have been arrested for what he did. But as usual we have to protect him and that stupid church of yours. If you were not as perverted as he is, he would be rotting in jail.”
“Your daughter is not entirely innocent in this issue. She fucked him even when she knew he was married. She is the bigger whore here.”
“Like father, like daughter. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.”
Raising his right hand, he hits me hard across my face,” don’t you dare disrespect me Ruth. I am still your husband.”
“You slapped me?”
“And I will do even more if you continue whining. I picked you up and made you the woman that you are today. You are my wife,your duty is to stand by me and not question the decisions I make. You find Sophia and bring her back home or else this house will be too small for us. Am I clear?”
Silence
“Am I clear?” He yells.
“Yes,” I nod before I walk out of the room. I don’t want to break down in front of him.
