BEHIND CHURCH DOORS Story - ANE Story

Episode 02.

Saturday, I slip out of bed at 7 in the morning and walk into the kitchen. Zyair is sitting at the table having breakfast, I am not so much of a morning person so Zyair usually makes his own breakfast.
‘’Good morning,’’ I pour myself a cup of coffee and sit down.
‘’Good morning, you slept great?’’
‘’I did thank you. You?”
” What do you have planned for the day?’’

“Sanna is picking me up at ten, we are going into town to buy some clothes for Mercy’s kitchen party. Remember that committee I am in? The kitchen party is tomorrow and there’s a specific dress code for us.’’
‘’Okay,’’ he responds and then there is silence as we continue eating.
‘’I need some money,’’ I abruptly say, letting out a sigh as I speak.
‘’How much do you need?’’
‘’About k1000.’’
‘’For what?’’

‘’For the dress and shoes plus I need to do my hair too.’’
‘’And you are just telling me about it now?’’
‘’You have been telling me you don’t have money for the longest.’’
‘’And what makes you think I have the money now?’’
“Zyair, are you going to give me the money or not?’’
‘’Business has been slow babe, I don’t have any money at the moment.’’

’You always don’t have money to give me,’’ I reply, raising my voice. ‘’I am honestly getting tired of your excuses Zyair, look at me, I haven’t bought any new clothes in the last couple of months. I am beginning to look older than my actual age when will you be able to get a job that will sustain us?’’
‘’You know I have been trying to get a job but things have been hard.’’
‘’Try harder, you are the man of the house, you should have it figured out,’’ I yell before I push my cup aside and head back to the bedroom. You know I thought marriage was a walk in the park but boy was I wrong, in the two years that Zyair and I have been married, I have gotten to discover that love alone isn’t enough to sustain a marriage, money actually plays a major role in determining if a marriage will survive.

Forgive me if I sound a little too insensitive but Zyair needs to up his game as soon as he can, he should shut down that stupid pharmacy and look for a real job. Two years, we have been married, two years and nothing has been moving the way I expected it to. I am beginning to think that we rushed into this marriage, we should have waited a bit or maybe we shouldn’t have gotten married until we were both financially stable but Zyair promised to take care of me, he even said he would take me back to school but here I am still in the same place I was in two years ago while my friends have graduated and they are working and living luxurious lives.

I am getting frustrated by the day with this marriage and as it turns out there’s not even a baby to look forward to.

Well I lost the baby at six months, precisely three months after the wedding. A gush of blood with clots and loss of placenta tissue caused my miscarriage. Zyair was supportive during that period and he kept me sane, he had a lot of faith and would often assure me that we would have more children but that hasn’t happened yet.
‘’You are crying?’’ Zyair asks, when he walks into the bedroom.
I didn’t even notice I was crying, I quickly wipe my face and look at him.

After all this time thinking about the baby I lost still causes so much pain to my heart.

He sits on the edge of the bed and holds my hand in his, ‘’I am sorry, I didn’t mean to make you cry.’’
‘’It’s okay, I just want things to move smoothly between us.’’
‘’I will see what I can do over the money when I get to the pharmacy.’’
‘’Okay,’’ I smile.
He leans over and kisses my forehead and then rests his head against mine.
‘’I love you, I hope you never forget that.’’
‘’I love you too.’’
‘’And things will eventually get better I promise it won’t always be like this.’’
‘’Okay.’’
‘’I have to go now, I will call you.’’
‘’’Sure.’’

When he leaves, I spend an hour cleaning our small one-bedroom apartment and washing the dishes, then I take a bath, get dressed and wait for Sanna. When Sanna arrives, we get into her car and hit the road.

Sanna is really doing well for herself, she works for a well-known law firm as head of the accounts department, she drives a Mercedes Benz and is currently building her own house. I have been trying to find a job so I can take myself back to school but nothing has come up yet. I seriously regret quitting school to get married.
‘’I don’t think I will go for the kitchen tomorrow.’’
‘’Why?’’

‘’Zyair doesn’t have money, I won’t be able to buy the shoes and the dress.’’
She looks at me, ‘’How long are you going to go on like this?’’
‘’I don’t know and honestly I am tired.’’
‘’You and your husband need deliverance.’’
I roll my eyes, ‘’don’t start with that deliverance issue.’’

‘’You need to meet my pastor, I am more than certain he will get you out of this poverty. You think I have made it in life out of my own will? That man has prayed for me several times and paved a way for me.’’
‘’Maybe I should give him a chance.’’
‘’Yes you should, you have nothing to lose after all.’’
Sanna has been trying to get to go to her church for several months now, she thinks the problems that Zyair and I are facing are spiritual and seeking help from her pastor will break our curses and open doors of success for us.’’
‘’Okay, I will see him then.’’

‘’Come to church with me tomorrow, I will schedule an appointment with Papa Kingsley immediately after the service.’’
‘’Fine.’’

‘’You will see how your life will change after meeting this man. That man is anointed, you can see from the way he speaks that he has a connection with God.”
‘’Whatever.’’

‘’Anyway, I will get you the dress and the shoes.’’
‘’Thank you so much, you do so much for me.’’
‘’That’s what best friends are for, I know you would do the same for me if roles were reversed.’’
‘’Ya, I would.’’
To Be Continued… . . .
