Playing With Messi Would Be A ‘Dream’ – Lewandowski

Despite an excellent start to his second season at Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), Lionel Messi’s future has become a subject of speculation in the footballing media lately.

While the forward has been linked with a move to the United States, a return to Barcelona has not been ruled out, with the Catalans keen on bringing the Argentine international back to Camp Nou.

Barcelona have already made great strides in trimming their squad lately, in order to reduce their wage budget. They have gotten rid of a host of fringe players, and the recent retirement of Gerard Pique should also help their cause.

The potential return of the Argentine magician would certainly excite the fans, even more so because of the prospect of seeing him start alongside another attacking superstar in the form of Robert Lewandowski.

And it appears the Polish international does not mind the concept of playing alongside either, as suggested in a recent interview.

“Playing with Messi would be a dream,” Lewandowski said (h/t Actualite-Barça) when asked about the possibility of sharing the attack with the former Barcelona icon.

However, the road is still long for Barcelona, if they are to unite these two attacking superstars. For one, the club must still offload a host of stars, including veterans such as Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba and Sergi Roberto, while Frenkie de Jong may have to depart as well.

This would see the club free up a chunk of the wage budget, thus enabling them to afford a new contract for Messi. But with Lewandowski’s salary also set to increase in the upcoming years, it will be interesting to see whether the club are willing to risk it all on two ageing stars.
