Boniface survives car crash in Germany

Victor Boniface, a striker for Bayer Leverkusen, was involved in a vehicle accident on Saturday but managed to escape with just minor injuries.

Earlier in the day, Leverkusen defeated Eintracht Frankfurt 2-1 at home thanks to the goal scored by the Nigerian international.

However, the 23-year-old was admitted to the hospital in the evening following a serious incident involving the Mercedes he was riding in.

Leverkusen have said that Boniface is ‘fine’ and that the striker has only suffered minor injuries to his hand.

A source close to Boniface told German newspaper Bild that the striker is ‘doing well considering the circumstances and is only slightly injured’.

Boniface uploaded multiple photographs and a video of his smashed Mercedes on Instagram.

He also took a picture of his hand which was covered in blood, as well as a selfie from the hospital which was captioned: ‘Thank you lord.’

On Sunday, Boniface wrote on social media ‘god is the greatest’ and ‘god says my time hasn’t come’.

It’s understood that Boniface was not driving the Mercedes, but was en route to Frankfurt airport to pick up friends.

Leverkusen are due to play away to French side Brest in the Champions League this Wednesday.
