Independent Artiste: Seyi Vibez charts new chapter
Nigerian musician Balogun Afolabi Oluwaloseyi, better known by his stage name Seyi Vibez, has marked a change in his career by formally unfollowing Dapper Music, his record company, on Instagram.
After changing his bio to “Independent artist,” the 24-year-old artist deleted all of his earlier posts, according to a brief review of him on Monday.
A link to the label is still present on his X profile, despite the change.
Rumours suggest the departure followed public backlash from Nigerians in Toronto, where Seyi Vibez reportedly cancelled a show last-minute.
A confidential source confirmed that Seyi Vibez has called time on his partnership with the label, reports Pulse Nigeria on Monday.
Fans now look forward to his next move as he embarks on this new chapter as an independent artist.
đđđđ¨đ đ§đđđđŚ via #AlbumTalksHQ, stated, âSeyi Vibez clears out his Instagram page, following cancellation of Tour. Changes Bio to âIndependentâ Unfollows Dapper & other Dapper affiliated accounts.â
Slim Daddy, via his handle, #Slimdaddynm, posted, âWahala jam network Singer Seyi Vibez unfollowed Dapper and left his record label. Then claimed independent due to the cancellations of his concerts.â
Both Seyi Vibez and Dapper Music have achieved remarkable success since 2022.
The singer won the 2023 Headies Award for Best Street Hop and ended the year as one of Nigeriaâs most-streamed artists.
Dapper Music, under CEO Damilola Akinwunmi, has emerged as a major force in Nigerian street music, with Akinwunmi being named TurnTable Chartâs Executive of the Year for 2023.
In 2024, Seyi Vibez continued his momentum with the release of his new EP Loseyi Professor, marking his sixth solo project since November 2022 in a meteoric rise to fame.
Earlier this year, he also launched his label, Vibez INC, unveiling a roster of artists.
As he embarks on a new chapter as an independent artist, fans are eagerly watching for whatâs next in his career.
