Goddess of Pop, Cher in talks to headline Glastonbury’s legends slot in 2025
Cher, the Pop Goddess, may be making her stage debut at Glastonbury in 2025 after allegedly having “meaningful talks.”
The 78-year-old Believe hitmaker would be a fantastic choice for the Legends position because 2025 also marks her 60th year in the music business. Her accomplishments include multiple number-one songs, a Grammy Award, and an Oscar-winning film performance.
However, her outstanding CV is missing one gig.
Cher has never played at the UK’s biggest music festival, which was founded in 1970 and takes place over five days almost every year at Somerset’s Worthy Farm with up to 200,000 people flocking to the field with their wellies on.
What’s more, the last time she toured the UK was in 2019, making her return long overdue.
If she took up the offer, she would be in good company as the Legends slot has previously been occupied by stars such as Shania Twain, Kylie Minogue, Dolly Parton and Diana Ross.
According to the latest reports, Cher is closer than ever to taking up the Glasto mantle as organiser Emily Eavis gets underway with 2025 planning.
‘Cher is practically the legend of all pop music legends. She would be incredible.
‘It’s been a long time coming but she is finally in meaningful talks with Glastonbury about playing the legend’s slot,’ a source told The Sun.
The insider continued: ‘Everything is very much in the planning stages but Cher is hoping to play a handful of shows in the UK next year and Glastonbury could be one of them.
‘The idea of a full-scale tour just doesn’t interest her anymore.’
It would be the singer’s only opportunity for the next couple of years to appear at Glastonbury as the festival will be taking a fallow year in 2026 to allow the land to recuperate.
In December 2023, TV personality Rylan asked outright if she would perform to which she responded: ‘I’d like to.’ And, after being pressed, exclaimed ‘yes’ to the idea.
This year marked another major moment in Cher’s career as she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (despite previously saying she would snub it due to her decades-long snub).
Elsewhere, in another good sign for a Glastonbury cameo, the American music artist fully immersed herself in British culture after singing to various screen stars for a streaming service advert.
That’s right, she started serenading everyone with a version of her 1965 Sonny & Cher tune I Got You Babe from Eastenders legend Barry (Shaun Williamson) in the Queen Vic to Chris Kamara and Jeff Stelling in World’s Most Dangerous Roads.
‘It was great to be associated with the great lady herself. I grew up listening to the song and duetting was incredible – such a pinch me moment,’ Shaun told Metro earlier this year.
As for the Glastonbury line-up, Emily had to weather a storm of criticism concerning the 2024 line-up after some attendees complained about the lack of rock acts.
Instead, 2024 saw acts such as Dua Lipa, SZA and country icon Shania take to the main Pyramid Stage.
‘I think the line-up reflects what’s happening in the music world at the moment – there aren’t a lot of new rock acts to choose from if I’m honest,’ she told PA at the time.
‘Hopefully that will emerge again, my heyday was 1995 with Pulp and Oasis and Radiohead – and that was great, but music changes all the time and right now this is where we’re at,’ she concluded.
