[STORY] DEADLY DESIRE (Episode 09)

Episode 09.

Nosa and his family moved into the two bedroom apartment. The day him and Itohan came to inspect the house, they were so much elated. They could not believe they would ever live in such kind of furnished house. Itohan sat on all the chairs.

“Them spend money for here o” She told her husband “E be like sey I dey Obodo Oyibo”

She entered the kitchen, opened the cabinets one after the other.

“Nawa oo! I don be big man wife overnight”

The bedroom amazed her. She removed her shoes and jumped on the bed.

“Nosa wetin be the name of the company. Nawa oo. The company come like you oo. See as them spend money for this house. Aah! God go bless them well well” She prayed.

“Aaah! Amen ooo”

Nosa and his family picked up few of their belongings and asked Uyi to sell others to “Aboki”.

He began his work in earnest. He would report in Nicole’s house 8:00am and closed for the day 5:00pm. Eghosa the driver would take them round the different places her business are located. Depending on where Nicole want them to go for the day. They would spend time, evaluating before they leave for the day.

Whenever she is unavailable or unable to go with them, she would instruct Nosa on what to do.

The first salary Nosa received shook him. It was huge.

“This is too much” He said.

“It’s nothing. You have family, take care of them. Nosa thanked her.

On his way home, he bought a beautiful gown and a pair of shoe for his wife. Itohan saw the gown and screamed for joy, she hugged her husband.

“I told you I will spoil you” He told her, kissing her softly.

“Thank you my husband”

“This is just the beginning my love. As the money rolls in, it will reflect on you. You have suffered for me, this is enjoyment time”

Itohan hugged him tightly and started praying for him.

“God no go shame you. You go continue to be the head of this family. Even that job wey you just start, God go promote you. Aaah! You no go suffer again”

“Amen oo”

He gave her money to enroll the kids in a good school. The excitement illuminates the house. Itohan entered the kitchen and dished food for her husband. Both of them ended up eating it.

Nosa and Uyi drove to a beer parlour. Uyi had finished one bottle already and was on the second bottle. Nosa was still romancing a bottle.

“You have added weight” Uyi said looking at him all over.

“Abeg drink your beer”

“Don’t shut me up. Nicole must be compensating you well”

“Of course!”

“She is enjoying you too”

Nosa laughed but said nothing.

“Make sure you impregnate her. Hmmm! Your wife must not know you have anything to do with Itohan. She must not set eyes on her or hell will break loose”.

“I am not sleeping with her Uyi. I am her P.A, she has not made any advance at me nor hint anything of such”.

Uyi scoffed “P.A in deed, Abeg tell me the truth jare. She can’t be spending so much money on you if she is not having a sexual relationship with you”

“I repeat Uyi, I don’t have any sexual relationship with her. It’s just platonic”

For a while, they drank in silence and watched people come in and go.

“I don’t have any intention of sleeping with her. It’s true my wife is not educated, but I love her. Uyi I love Itohan”

“Why stick to a particular food when there are different varieties of food”

Nosa laughed but said nothing. He ordered for another bottle of beer.

“I love the taste of the first one. Itohan has not lost her flavour or saltiness until then, she remains my favourite food”

On his way home, he began to rehearsed his conversation with Uyi.

“If I am not careful, Uyi will land me in trouble.

Nosa drove into the compound in an expensive car. His family came out to see him step out of the car with questions written on their faces.

“The company gave me this car. It’s called official car” He told them.

He loved the expression on their faces. His children jumped on him and Itohan was all smiles. Itohan opened the door and sat comfortably on the seat. When she stepped down, she was already in tears.

“Why are you crying?” He asked softly.

Itohan went to him and placed her head on his chest.

“The joy for my heart too much” She said.

“I understand”

The children were already in the car. Nosa asked his wife to hop in and he drove them to a mall, where they picked what they needed. Before they returned, the children were already dozing. Itohan woke them to go in and sleep. After making sure they have entered their room and comfortable in their bed, Itohan carried a glass of water to the dinning room. Nosa was already there pressing his phone.

“This God too good” She told him, I no ever believe sey God go remember this family ”

Nosa was too concentrated on his phone to hear her

“I dey talk to you”

He raised his head up and smiled at her.

“Wetin you talk?”

“I say I no believe sey God go fit remember us”

“Aaah! Baba too much” He said still pressing his phone.

Itohan studied her husband them smiled. He has added weight and his neck that used to be long and thin due to hardship had puff off. He is now robust. She also observed that Nosa was always pressing his phone, he doesn’t sleep much in the night.

Several times, she had caught him smiling sheepishly.

“Why you dey laugh by yourself” She had asked.

“Aah! na somebody here dey make me laugh”

She remembered she smiled to his response and went back to sleep.

Itohan poured water in her glass, then raised it to her mouth. A frown crossed her face.

“You buy new phone?” She asked.

Nosa raised his head and smiled.

“Yes na, today. Na the latest phone be this”

“Na waoo! Good things dey happen for this family oo”

“No worry I go change your phone”, He told her

“I no want phone, the one wey I dey use still good” She told him.

Nosa’s attention went back to his phone. He laughed softly oblivious of his wife watching him.

“Nosa!” She called

“Wetin?”

“When you go look me sef. Everytime wey you return from work, you go dey press phone. Na phone be your wife? This morning I be wan tell you something but you sey you don late. You don return from work, na phone you carry, okayooo”

Nosa dropped his phone and touched his wife’s hand.

“I am sorry, no vex! Na wetin you be wan tell me?”

“I don tire to stay house without doing anything, I wan do business. I don check this our street and the kain business wey I for like do no dey here”

“Which kain business you for like do”

“I wan continue the akara business”

“Enh! God forbid bad thing. No try am ooh, think of better business jare” He exploded

He never liked the business, but the fact that it was putting food on the table made him to shut up. The smoke alone from the wood made it worse. He had long thought of the business for his wife and going into clothing business was a good idea. Itohan watched her husband lost in thought.

“I don’t like akara business. The company I work for wouldn’t like you do such business in front of the compound”

“I don hear!”

“I for like go into tailoring. I wan learn how to sew clothes. I know a good place where I fit learn am.

“Ok. Go ask tomorrow make I know how much the person go take teach you.”

“Ok”

“Are you happy now?”

Itohan laughed and nodded. She thanked her husband then moved away from the dinning room to the sitting room to watch a television programme.

Nosa watched her for a while then smiled. Itohan is a beautiful woman, but she doesn’t know how captivating she is. He would use money to enhance her beauty. Though, he would have preferred her to go to school but she just doesn’t have interest in it. He shook his head then focused on his phone.
