TikTok partners with Giphy to enhance DMs with AI-powered gif-picker
TikTok‘s seemingly unrelenting drive to AI everything—or as many as possible, at least—has influenced its direct messages and the way users engage with one other through GIFs.
The social-media giant claims that its latest feature, provided it originates from the current Giphy library, may save a user the time it would otherwise take to discover the ideal animated method to reply to someone, even if they just can’t bring it to mind that second.
The Shutterstock subsidiary will have its API integrated into TikTok’s messaging UI, which should allow the latter’s “specialized recommendation engine” to extract the GIF most “relevant” (presumably to the conversation in question) to make “communication more engaging and expressive”.
The GIF picker is touted to be “a seamless and intuitive” addition to the TikTok app. The feature is projected to drop in the fourth quarter of 2024 or the first of 2025.
