The reason I left Chelsea — Conor Gallagher
Conor Gallagher, the legendary midfield player for Chelsea, has revealed his reasons for leaving the team.
Gallagher indicated that Chelsea’s new policy of signing players to extended contracts was the primary reason he left Chelsea, according to a statement released on Friday via Fabrizio Romano’s X account.
Why did Chelsea sell me? The clubs have their own autonomy and have signed long-term contracts with some of the best players.
He told Daily Mail, “That wasn’t the situation with me, but everyone is happy because what happened is good for everyone in the end.”
Recall that the London club sold Gallagher to Athletico Madrid in a deal worth over £33m earlier in the summer transfer window.
Having made a couple of appearances for Atleti, Gallagher is currently with Lee Carsley’s England squad preparing for Saturday’s UEFA Nations League clash with the Republic of Ireland.
Speaking ahead of the fixture, the midfielder has hit back at the suggestion he was not technically good enough to succeed in Maresca’s system.
“I don’t think that’s true, personally, I think last season I had a good season with Chelsea and you could see by Pochettino playing me every game and showing his trust in me.
“And the fans appreciated what I did on the pitch. I’m very grateful for all of that and very thankful to the fans, and very thankful to Pochettino for giving me that platform to go and express myself and show the best version of myself at Chelsea.” Gallagher told reporters.
