[STORY] DEADLY DESIRE (Episode 17)

Episode 17.

Nicole lay on the bed so heart broken. She had been like that for days. Not eating much or even talking. Her staff were very worried. They would knock on her door when they hear her cry, but she wouldn’t respond. Severally, amidst tears she had stood before a mirror and looked at her appearance. Today she stood before the mirror again with swollen eyes.

“I am 40, but still beautiful” She said. “Why is Nosa rejecting me. I am pregnant and wealthy but he still rejected me”

She left the mirror to bed then to the bathroom. She splashed water on her face then returned to her bedroom. She picked one of her keys and left the room.

Sighting her, Eghosa rushed down to where she was standing.

“I am going out but not with you. I will drive by myself. Don’t worry, I will be fine”

Eghosa watched her drive out of the compound and he became troubled in his spirit.

“Where is she going to?” He asked no one in particular, but he went to where he usually sit and began to pray.

Nicole parked her car in the Church premises. It was a wednesday, Pastor Smart was in his office. He is the founder of GOD IS HERE Deliverance Church. It was a big church.

She met other people who wanted to see the pastor. Nicole took a seat beside a man and waited her turn. She had waited for almost two hours before a man ushered her into a spacious but well decorated office.

Nicole was meeting him for the first time. Those days when she used to go clubbing with her friends, they do tell her how powerful pastor Smart is.

“He prays and fire falls” Mercy had told her. Chief married me by force even though he has two wives already”

The girls laughed.

“He didn’t marry me with his clear eyes. I am the third wife of chief yet I still go cruising in the club with other men. He cannot do anything about it” she said and laughed.

“Pastor Smart has promised to pray for me and before you know it, the other senior wives will willingly leave the marriage or run mad.

“I trust you! Osato said hailing Mercy.

Nicole sat before Pastor Smart and gave a deep sigh.

She had called Mercy to ask for direction to the Pastor’s church and she obliged her.

The day Nosa betrayed Nicole, she left his house and was hit by a car. She spent two weeks at the hospital trying to recover. The man who hit her took good care of her and then fell in love with her.

Nicole didn’t love him, but when he introduced himself as the son of a billionaire, she began to show interest, not in the man but in his wealth. He had businesses all over. He introduced her to his parents and they liked her.

Kenny didn’t wait for her to graduate before marrying her. He paid her bride price and did court marriage.

The marriage didn’t last. When she returns from school during holidays, she would find her husband with women on the bed. She tried to talk to him, she even involved his parents but Kenny was a chronic womanizer.

Kenny was also spending recklessly on them. He would buy cars for his numerous girl friends and Nicole began to hate him.

“I can’t be dealt with twice” She would tell herself.

She had narrated the issue to her friends, who advised her to take drastic actions.

“What action can I take,

“There are men outside Nicole. Use what you have to get what you need”

“I still don’t get it”

“Kill him” Mercy said.

Nicole covered her mouth in shock.

“Kill him? For what. I can walk out of the marriage if I am tired but not kill him. I can’t oo”

“You told me you don’t love him.

yes but not enough to kill him

“You married him because of his wealth. You can inherit his wealth and properties”

“Aaah! not without a fight from his family”

Mercy and Osato looked at each other and laughed.

“Nothing like that. They won’t even remember their son have properties. We will take you somewhere”

At first, she refused to yield but when Kenny returned home with three women. She made that decision.

“A man who will not regard me, but bring women to our matrimonial home deserve to be dealt with. For me, i have no regard for such man”

Her friends took her to a man. No one suspected he was a native doctor. He was well dressed and his furnished sitting room was used for that purpose. Nicole presented her case but the man told her it was a done deal. She paid the requested amount and the man asked her to get Kenny’s shoes.

The next day Nicole returned with Kenny’s shoes.

“You can go!” He had told her.

“Just like that?” She asked.

“Yes just like that. You have paid me and given me what I requested. Leave the rest to me”

As Nicole was about to step out, he called out to her

“Be here in two days time”

When she got home, she was restless. She began to feel remorseful.

“I can’t go through with this”

In the afternoon of the next day, she dressed quickly and rushed out of the house to the man’s house. She waited restlessly until it was her turn. She exchanged pleasantries with him and then took her seat .

“I told you two days time”

“I…I… don’t want my husband to die”

The man laughed and laughed.

“Please I need the shoes. Don’t do anything with it again” She pleaded.

“Okay!” He said.

He went inside and returned with the pair of brown shoe. Nicole thanked him and returned home with the shoe. She was so happy that she didn’t go through it again.

“I can’t stain my hands in blood”

When Nicole left, the man kept laughing.

“Foolish girl” He said and laughed.

The holiday was over and Nicole had to return to school. She had not spent a week in school, when the news got to her that her husband was dead.

Kenny parked his car after work and ran into the express road. Even though she didn’t love him, she mourned him. The thought that the native doctor might have done something usually crosses her mind, but she always dismissed it.

Noticeably, after Kenny’s burial, no member of his family claimed his properties . He willed everything to her. Discovering that he willed everything to her, she began to cry. Twice, she visited Kenny’s grave. She would cry and beg for his forgiveness.

When she started living a reckless life, her friends would tell her to get pregnant for any of the men coming to her but she always refused.

“My heart is not with any of them. I am still in love with the man that deflowered me and betrayed me” She would tell them.

No matter how they tried to cajole her to get pregnant, she would refuse.

“After pregnancy, he can still refuse to marry me”

“No Nicole, Pastor Smart will help you”

Nicole never listened to them. When she started having affairs with Nosa, she had it in her heart to visit him, but she felt Nosa would never betray her again.

“If I had known I would have visited the pastor for prayers” She scolded herself the day Nosa ended the affair.

Sitting before Pastor Smart, Nicole smiled again. At least the pastor would pray and Nosa would return to her.

The pastor welcomed her again. He listened patiently, as she unburdened everything in her heart. By the time she was through, tears were already pouring from her eyes. Pastor Smart allowed her to cry. Nicole cried until she was exhausted.

“I am sorry Nicole. But the truth is Nosa will never return to you. He is not just married, he loves his wife. As I speak to you, you have caused chaos between him and his wife”

Nicole was aghast. She was expecting him to pray and let fire fall. She was expecting him to say, I will make him come to you. Why is he just preaching and quoting bible? The pastor noticed her discomfort and smiled.

“Is there nothing you can do?”

“Like what?

“Like pray?”

“Go home and pray for forgiveness. You are breaking a home. Submit yourself to God”

Nicole sat on the chair too surprised to move. She refused to believe that this was the same Pastor Smart, her friends talked about.

She thanked him and stood with heavy legs. At the door, he called her back.

“Take this”

Nicole collected the complimentary card.

“If you want solution, locate the address and meet the person bearing that name”

Nicole thanked him again and left the office. Before she entered the car, she looked at the complimentary card.

“I want solution”

She entered the car and drove off.
