[STORY] DEADLY DESIRE (Episode 15)

Episode 15.

Nicole paced round her bedroom with phone in her hand. She wore a worried look on her face. She had been calling Nosa on the phone but he wasn’t answering. The last time she spoke with him was three days ago. It was the day he was supposed to return to her. She had called and he picked on the second ring. It was obvious he was happy without her, while she was miserable without him. She was lonely.

He had told her, Itohan fell ill and he would not leave her unattended.

“Take her to the hospital and tell the doctor to take care of her, while you come here” She commanded.

“Be reasonable Nicole. I have to stay with her. She is also carrying my child”

She had ended the call in annoyance and he didn’t call her.

Today, Nicole had woken up missing him and she wanted him to come back. She had been dialing his number but he refused to pick the call. She dropped the phone on the bed and began to cry.

It was Eghosa’s knock that jolted her out of depression.

“What is it?” She asked harshly as Eghosa entered.

“I came to tell you that I am ready. The car is ready and I have been waiting downstairs for you”

“Alright”

“May I ask you why you are crying” Eghosa asked moving close to her.

Nicole looked at him and cried the more. Catarrh was running down her nose. He did the unbelievable. He used his handkerchief to wipe her tears.

“Even though you will not tell me, I know why you are crying” he said.

She sniffled back tears and looked at Eghosa.

“Tell me why?”

“You are obsessed with Nosa. You are pregnant for him
You are sad because he hasn’t come to you”

“How did you know?”

“I know Boss. My father tells me everything. He knows you too”

Nicole sniffled back tears again.

“I am in love with him not obsessed”

“You’re treading on a dangerous ground. That man is someone’s husband and father. Holding him here is making his wife to cry and children to long for him. You are beautiful and bold boss , you are wealthy too. As long as you hold on to Him, yours won’t be released”

Eghosa knew he was hitting the nail in her heart. Nicole was not comfortable with the discussion.

“I can’t leave him alone. I love him. I have gone too far to leave him. He would have married me, if not for Itohan who seduced him and became pregnant for him. I was the first in his life”

“Itohan may have been the second in his life then but he married her. He chose her over you. What you are doing is hurting her”

“Of course, that is what I want. To make her cry”

Eghosa was quiet. He prayed silently in his heart for God to heal Nicole’s wounded heart and change her.

“The path you have chosen for yourself will swallow you. Turn back Boss. No one can help you except Jesus. He knows you are hurting and he can fix that hurt”

Nicole refused to respond to Eghosa. She allowed the tears to trickle down her face. She picked her phone from the bed and resumed dialling Nosa’s line. Eghosa quietly took his leave.

A month had gone yet Nosa had not return to Nicole. He was with his family and he was loving it. He goes to shop with his wife and they return home together. They cook together and do the house chores together. Itohan began to glow again. She was refreshed and rejuvenated. When she fell ill, he took care of her. Together, they call Osadebamwen to know how she was doing in school.

Nosa had even gone to church with her. She had introduced him to her pastor. Itohan also took out time to explain any bible verse that was taught during the bible study. There was light in her eyes again. Itohan made sure they prayed together. Itohan showed him more love than he deserved and he began to feel guilty.

For the first time, he began to regret listening to Uyi.

“I would have waited for God to answer me. Look at me, my wife is pregnant and the other woman in my life is pregnant” He whispered to himself.

He looked at the sleeping Itohan on the bed. Should he expose his other life to her?. He envisage how Itohan would react, but will she ever forgive him? He contemplated. She would find it difficult to forgive him because the same woman he left for her was the woman he eventually returned to. Nosa shook his head vehemently.

“I can’t expose my secret now. I will break the news when she has given birth. Telling her is exposing her to danger” He reasoned.

Nosa picked his phone to send text message to Nicole, but he stopped. For the past one month, he had purposely refused to answer her call or reply her messages. He knew she was angry disappointed in him.

“My wife is also pregnant for me and I must be there too” He reasoned.

He had not picked Nicole’s calls because her cries would make him abandon his family and abscond. He read and re-read her messages. She would beg him to come to her. She would tell him how much she is missing him. Nosa would quickly delete her messages and switched off his phone.

He would find time to see her, he thought as he stretched himself on the bed. Maybe the wisest thing to do is to end the relationship with Nicole, then establish a business for himself or look for another job.

Infact, he decided that the relationship must end but he would bear the responsibility of the child.

The morning was very cold. Itohan was up to start preparing to go out, but Nosa won’t let her go anywhere.

“It’s about raining and I would be sad to see you drenched in it”

He held her hand and moved her to the sitting room. He sat her on his legs and tickled her. Itohan giggled like a child.

“I missed you so much Itohan and I want to spend the rest of my life with you. I won’t leave your side again. For better for worse we will stay together, like this forever”

He kissed her again and carried her to the bedroom where he dropped her gently on the bed. Itohan kept laughing and when she was about kissing him, his phone rang.

Nosa refused to answer the call.

“Answer na!” She insisted. “Maybe na for work oo”

“I won’t answer and I don’t have work again”

“Enh!” She shouted.” You tell me say na one month leave your company give you. Hey! I don die oo”

“Relax Itohan! I was not sacked. I quitted on my own. These are things I will talk to you about, but not now”

Itohan was uncomfortable as the phone continued ringing. Sensing her discomfort, he switched off his phone.

“Don’t worry, we will rent another house. My family comes first Itohan. The company cannot take my whole time. What time do I now have with my family. Let’s seat and plan”

“Okay!”

Itohan sat up and they began to make plans fo the future.
