Episode 42.

MISSY
“So Bishop, you said you had something to tell me over dinner,” I say, shoving a spoonful of rice into my mouth.
He shifts uncomfortably in his seat, clears his throat and says, “yes I did.”
“I am all ears. What did God say about me?”
“You remember what God said about you the first time I prayed for you?”

“Yes. You said I needed to break up with the man I was seeing because he was just using me and wasn’t ready to commit.”
“Did you break up with him?”
“Yes daddy, I did as you said.”
“Someone new is coming into your life.”
“Amen!” Manny exclaims.
“Where is this person coming from?”

“He is actually closer than you expect him to be. All you have to do is open your heart and accept what the lord is bringing to you.”
“Should i start making wedding preparations or you will advise daddy?” Manny asks.
I stare at Bishop and I can tell he is irritated by Manny’s reaction.
“I will be waiting for that man that the lord has in store for me.”

“Over the next few days you and I will need to have some private prayers. I need to anoint you so that you don’t sabotage this gift.”
“Oh.”
“Can I join in on the prayers?” Asks Manny.
“They will be private prayers. If you need prayers too, you schedule an appointment with me and then we can see how to go about it.”
“Okay.
We eat the rest of the meal in silence and when we are done, Bishop’s phone vibrates, he picks it up and stares at it before he says, “I think you two need to leave now. I have just received an emergency and I need to leave.”
“Okay. Thank you for the food.”
“You are welcome and I will keep in touch. The driver will drop you off.”
“Okay.”
Manny and I head out. We get into the car and the driver pulls out of the driveway into the main road. I can’t wait for us to get home so we can laugh at how awkward tonight was for the Bishop.

ZYAIR
10 p.m. I walk into the house and find Tia sitting on the couch watching some reality show. She looks up from her program, stares at the clock on the wall and says, “where have you been?”
“I was out with the boys.”
“Oh so now the boys are more important than your pregnant wife?”
“What do you want?”
“A husband who is there.”
I laugh,” you are joking right?”
“No I am not, look at the time you are coming home. What if something happened to me and I needed to go to the hospital?”
“Well nothing has happened to you.”
“Who is she?”
“Who is who?”
“The woman you are cheating on me with?”
“I am really tired Tia and I have to be at work tomorrow. So goodnight.”
I walk past her and enter the bedroom. But she follows me, I am undressing when she picks up my phone and says “unlock it for me.”
“Why would I do that?”
“I want to see what you are hiding?”
I laugh,” are these tantrums also part of pregnancy hormones because I am slowly losing my patience with you.”
“Just unlock it.”
“I am sorry but I will not unlock this phone. Take your trust issues elsewhere.”
“So you are hiding things from me?”
“You’ve always had access to this phone but when you put a password on yours I decided to do the same on mine. Now can I have some peace in this house.”
“You will not have any peace in this house.”
I seriously don’t understand Tia. She has really become distant and moody lately. I was told it’s the pregnancy so I do the best I can to avoid her.

I have been spending time out with the boys after work because she is constantly nagging and suspecting me of cheating when I am home. We hardly have normal conversations these days. I don’t want to lose my patience with her Because of her condition but she is pushing me too much.

“Tia, please allow me to rest.”
“Unlock the phone.”
“No thank you.”
“Oh!” She says before smashing my phone against the wall and it breaks into a hundred pieces. A wave of anger sweeps through my body, and in another instant I grab her with both hands, “what the hell is wrong with you,” I yell, shaking her vigorously.
“See what you have done to my phone. What do you want from me? What?” I yell.
“You are hurting me,” she bursts into tears.
Letting her go, I button up my shirt, slip my feet into my flip-flops and march out of the house.
*
An hour later I am standing in front of Zion’s house, she is the only person that can keep me sane tonight. If I stayed at the house with Tia, I would have done something regrettable.

I was so close to beating the fuck out of her, It took a lot of control to walk away. I knock at the door and after a couple of seconds she opens it.
“Zyair what are you doing here? Are Tia and the baby okay?”
“Yes, I just need a place to sleep.”
She steps aside and lets me and after closing the door, she walks into the living room and I follow her.
“What happened?”
“I can’t do this anymore.”
“What?”
“This marriage with Tia I think it’s not working, I have been trying to hold on for the longest but I am tired.”
“What do you mean? What happened?”
“Tia is insecure but that’s not even the case. She is also distant and moody, you said it’s the pregnancy but her attitude makes me sick. I have seen pregnant women and none of them act like her. It hurts me to say this but I think she is out of love and wants a way out of this marriage.”
“Zyair. You are a child on the way you can’t be thinking like this.”
“That child is the reason I need to make a decision about the state of this marriage. Tia is unhappy with me, I see the sadness in her eyes. She used to be so happy and full of life but now is the opposite of that. We are practically living like strangers in that house, we don’t talk like we used to be, I don’t even remember the last time she allowed me to touch her.”
“What happened tonight?”
“She broke my phone because I refused to unlock it for her, she thinks I am cheating.”
“Are you?”
“I would never do that to her Zion and you know it.”
“So why did you refuse to unlock the phone?”
“Because I am tired of her insecurities. And I wasn’t the one that started the issue of locking phones. She started it and I followed suit.”
“So you want to divorce her?”
“If this will make her happy then yes.”
“I think you should wait until she gives birth before you make that decision. You have endured this long, a few more months won’t do you any harm.”
“You think so?”
“I think that’s the right thing to do. You can’t leave her now, she might be stressed and end up losing the baby, I am sure you don’t want that.”
“Okay.”
“Can I make you something to eat?”
“Sure.”
