Episode 37.

MISSY

Clad in a white skin tight jumpsuit and red peep-toe sandals, I grab my bag, step out of the car and head towards the church entrance. Pushing open the glass doors, I walk through to the reception desk.

“Good afternoon,” I say to the woman sitting at the reception desk. She is typing on her phone and hardly looks up to respond to me. What an attitude, this one obviously thinks she owns this church. I saw her in church on Sunday, I had no idea she works here.

“Good afternoon, how can I help you?”
“I am looking for the Bishop.”
“Do you have an appointment with him?”
“Yes, I do.”
“Your name?”
“Missy Mpundu.”

“You can go through,” she points at the office that has a big sign with “Bishop Kingsely’s” name written on it.
“Thank you,” I say walking away.

At the door, I knock once before he responds. Pushing the door open, I step in. Bishop K is sitting at his desk typing away on his computer. When he looks up at me he smiles.
“Missy!”
“Bishop.”
“Welcome, please take a seat.”
“Thank you.”
“What can I offer you?”
“Just water will do.
He opens the small fridge and takes out a bottle of water which he hands to me.
“Thank you.”
“You are welcome. How are you?”
“I am okay, you?”
“I am blessed. Have you brought your credentials?”
“Yes” I quickly open my bag, pull out my papers and give them to him. Bishop and I met a couple of days ago, I contacted him via Facebook seeking his help. He invited me to church, I attended a service and had a prayer session with him afterwards. I told him I desperately needed a job and he asked me to come over so here we are.
“This is impressive,” he says.
“Thank you.”
“I actually need a personal assistant. Is that something you think you can take up?”
“Yes I would.”
“Consider yourself hired.”
“Just like that?”
“Yes, you start work tomorrow. I will tell Tia to get your contract ready.”
“Thank you so much Bishop. Thank you. I don’t know how I will ever repay you.”
“The best way you can repay me is if you join the membership class and become a permanent member of our church. There’s so much the lord can do in your life if you are planted in the right church. The membership class will expose you to the doctrine of the church.”
“I will definitely join.”
“Great, you can register your name after the service on Sunday. Make sure you invite someone to church. Pattern of Life is a home to many,I hope it becomes a home to you too.”
“Thank you daddy. I actually feel like a member already. The welcome on Sunday was amazing and now this? I will bring my entire crew here.”
“Let me pray for you before you leave,” he says. Getting down on my knees, I close my eyes, he grabs my hand and starts to pray for me. He prays for over five minutes before he says, “I am seeing a man.”
“A man?”
“You have been in a relationship with him for some time but he hasn’t shown any signs of commitment? The lord says you should leave him, he isn’t the one for you.”
“Oh!” I exclaim under my breath knowing that he is lying. I am actually married, my husband traveled to China for school. I am not wearing my ring though.

“God says someone better is coming but first you need to leave the current one. He is toxic for you.”
“Yes daddy.”
He pours some anointing oil on my head, “May the lord impart you with the Grace to walk away from anything toxic.”
“Amen.”
“The Lord be with you now and forever more.”
“Amen.”
After that I rise to my feet.
“Thank you so much. I should be leaving now.”
“You are welcome. I will see you tomorrow.”
As he walks me out of his office to the car park, I notice the woman at the reception shooting me dargers with her eyes. I make a mental note to watch this one closely, there’s more to her stinking attitude than meets the eye.

TIA

When Bishop walks out of his office with that lady smiling, an irrational jealousy sweeps through me so I wait for him to get back to his office so I can confront him. . I refused to quit my job and surprisingly Bishop hasn’t kicked me out, he just has been avoiding me. Pastor Ruth has been on my case, she insists that I leave but I won’t do that. I kept the money she gave me though, with the baby on the way I will need as much money as I can lay my hands on.

When Bishop walks in, he pauses at my desk, “That lady is Missy, she will be working here as my PA. Please prepare her contract and the employee code of conduct, she will start work tomorrow.”
“What do you mean your P.A I am not enough? Have I complained?”
“You will strictly be at this desk, she on the other hand will work with me in the office. She will go with me for meetings and take notes and keep my files organized.”
“I already do that. I don’t think there was any need for you to hire her. You should have talked to me first before..”
“Talk to you as what? You are just a worker here, the sooner you get that into your head, the better for us all.”
“Kingsely why are you doing this?”
“I have kept you here because I thought you are mature enough to forget what happened between us and maintain a professional relationship. If you continue acting like this, I will be forced to fire you myself.”
He heads to his office and I follow him.
“Don’t do this to me please Kingsley.”
“Tia! Control yourself. Someone could walk in. What happened between us was a mistake and I apologized and made peace with my God. Please do the same and stop embarrassing yourself.”
Pastor Ruth walks in at that same moment, she looks at me then her husband.
“What’s going on here?”
“Tia was just leaving.”
“Okay,” she walks past me and sits down.
Shooting her an angry look. I walk out of the office. When I sit down at my desk, my phone rings and I answer it instantly.
“Sanna!”
“Hey you.”
“Hey.”
“You are at work right?”
“Yes, okay I am almost there. I am picking you up for lunch, my treat.”
“Okay.”
As I am waiting for Sanna, Pastor Ruth and Bishop walk out hand in hand.
“I will be out for the rest of the afternoon. Keep my office locked and transfer all my afternoon meetings to tomorrow.”
“Okay,” I whisper, my heart aching. It’s the fact that he is treating me like a stranger that’s making me so mad. After everything we shared, he will just look at me as if I mean nothing to him? What did I ever do to this man to deserve this kind of treatment?
To Be Continued…. . . .
