Maya Jama ‘in talks to host Brit Awards 2023
Maya Jama is reportedly in talks to host the Brit Awards 2023.
The presenter looks to be completely booked and busy after recently landing the Love Island presenter job, following Laura Whitmore’s exit.
Next year’s awards are set to take place on February 11, 2023 and it seems Maya, 28, is among the top choices.
It wouldn’t be the star’s first time at the event – she and Munya Chawawa teamed up as red carpet reporters for this year’s event when Mo Gilligan hosted the main show, and she’s thought to have impressed bosses.
A source told The Sun: ‘Maya Jama has proven to be a really confident and competent host and young people love her, which is key for an event like the Brit Awards.
‘Since she helped out earlier this year, her star power has risen and she has been in talks about hosting the show on her own.
‘There are plenty of contenders vying for this year’s job as the show’s host and nothing has been signed – but Maya has made it clear she would love to take on the role.’
If she lands the role, Maya would be the first solo female presenter since 2004, when Cat Deeley hosted.
However, there might be a clash in her schedule, considering she’s due to host the winter 2023 series of Love Island in the new year.
Jack Whitehall previously hosted the Brits for a four-year stint, with comedian Mo taking over last year and impressing audiences.
For the first time in the history of the music awards show, which turns 30 next year, the bash will take place on a Saturday at The O2 in London.
There’s also been change at the top after Damian Christian, managing director and president of promotions at Atlantic Records, was announced as the new chair of the Brit Committee for 2023.
Explaining the reason for swapping to Saturday, he said: ‘The Brits is the biggest night of the year for the UK music industry, and we want as many eyes on it as possible as we showcase the best and most diverse British talent.’
‘Moving the show to a Saturday will breathe new life into the iconic ceremony, while also introducing a new and more engaged audience,’ he promised.
Last year’s ceremony, which took place on a Tuesday, suffered its lowest TV audience ever, drawing an average of just 2.7million viewers overnight.
This made it the lowest-rated ceremony ever since it began airing live in 1999, with 9.86 million fans watching – although the YouTube streaming figures for international fans were not counted.
In 2022 Adele won big, taking home three major awards in total for artist, album and song of the year following the release of album 30 and single Easy On Me.
Ed Sheeran, Dua Lipa and Billie Eilish also scooped top prizes.
