Harry Styles rocks up to Venice Film Festival for the premiere of Don’t Worry Darling amid controversy
Harry Styles has been spotted rocking up to Venice Film Festival for the premiere of Don’t Worry Darling, following the controversy the film has faced.
The Watermelon Sugar hitmaker, who was most recently touring his Love On Tour show, was seen arriving at the airport, clad in Gucci as he prepared for the festival.
He rocked his signature flares, donning jeans, a green jumper, and a plum blazer as well as a mask and shades.
Carrying matching leopard print luggage, the 28-year-old waved at the cameras as he arrived.
Harry is in Venice to promote his upcoming film Don’t Worry Darling, directed by Olivia Wilde, who he’s currently dating.
He’s starring alongside Florence Pugh, with a trailer for the highly-anticipated film recently being released.
However, the film hasn’t been without its controversy, after Olivia spoke about ‘firing’ Shia LaBeouf from what is now Harry’s role.
Insisting she was ‘such an admirer of his work,’ Olivia said ‘his process was not conducive to the ethos that I demand in my productions.
‘He has a process that, in some ways, seems to require a combative energy, and I don’t personally believe that is conducive to the best performances,’ she added to Variety.
‘I believe that creating a safe, trusting environment is the best way to get people to do their best work. Ultimately, my responsibility is to the production and to the cast to protect them. That was my job.’
Shia later denied he had been fired, insisting he quit the film, and publicly asked Olivia for a correction.
He also reportedly shared years-old texts between the two to back this up.
According to Variety, the Holes actor got in touch in the days after their interview with Wilde was published, and forwarded them an email he had sent to the director where he said he was ‘confused by the narrative that I was fired.’
‘You and I both know the reasons for my exit,’ he said. ‘I quit your film because your actors & I couldn’t find time to rehearse.’
Attached to the email were screenshots of texts allegedly sent between Shia and Olivia in 2020, in which he said he would have to back out of production and, after an in-person meeting, the director allegedly wrote: ‘Thanks for letting me in on your thought process. I know that isn’t fun.
‘Doesn’t feel good to say no to someone, and I respect your honesty.’
Don’t Worry Darling focuses on a couple living a seemingly perfect suburban life in the 1950s, when cracks begin to show in their surroundings.
They soon learn that all is not as it seems in their tight-knit desert utopia, with Alice (Florence) questioning whether something more sinister is lurking below, leading her on a mission to expose what’s really going on.
Don’t Worry Darling is set for release on September 23.
