Elon Musk fires Twitter employee
Elon Musk has fired a Twitter developer on Twitter after they clashed over the state of Twitter on Android.
Perhaps it shouldn’t come as a surprise, as Musk has been happy to sack most of the company’s workforce since taking ownership.
In this particular case, the billionaire was apologising to his audience of millions about the sorry state of Twitter’s Android performance.
His tweet was contradicted by Eric Frohnhoefer, an engineer who said he has been working on Twitter’s Android app for around six years and ‘can say this is wrong’.
As always, lines were drawn and sides were taken.
While some commentors felt Frohnhoefer should have messaged Musk in private others congratulated him for sticking up to the billionaire.
I have spent ~6yrs working on Twitter for Android and can say this is wrong. https://t.co/sh30ZxpD0N

Either way, it didn’t matter. Musk replied to the ensuing thread with a simple ‘he’s fired’.
However, at time of writing, Musk appears to have deleted the tweet. Others captured it and Frohnhoefer confirmed he had been disconnected from his work account.
Unbelievable exchange. Can I write this up as a teaching case for my management classroom? pic.twitter.com/lYteE7d4N8

It doesn’t seem like Frohnhoefer is alone, either. Other former Twitter employees are suggesting that their own public condemnations are getting them the sack.

For what it’s worth, Frohnhoefer did offer a range of suggestions to Musk for improving Twitter’s Android experience before he got canned.
This included slimming down the app, deleting old features and avoiding adding too many new ones.
Within his first hours as Chief Twit, Musk began letting go of some of Twitter’s top management.
He fired top executives including CEO Parag Agrawal, CFO Ned Segal, legal affairs and policy chief Vijaya Gadde.
The culling didn’t stop there.
Layoffs began and it was expected to hit around half of the company’s workforce, or around 3,700 staff. He then warned Twitter could actually face bankruptcy.
