Developers are uncertain about virtual reality, according to recent survey
According to a survey by The Game Developer Collective (via Mixed News), game developers have no idea of the VR games market’s potential. The market is “currently declining or stagnating,” according to 56% of respondents, while only 23% believe it has grown somewhat.
Of the people surveyed, 53% said they did not want to learn about VR development, and 13% said they didn’t want to do it for the next six years. It’s worth noting that the Game Developer Collective has not mentioned the number of people they surveyed.
Only 1% of the people said the market was growing strongly, and 6% believed their companies would transition to VR development in the next 2 to 5 years.
When asked whether the launch of a marquee product like the Apple Vision Pro had an impact, 72% said they had no plans to start developing games for Apple’s headset.
According to Statista, the AR and VR market is expected to grow at an annual rate of 8.97% to 3,728 million users by 2029. The market is projected to generate a revenue of $40.4 billion (€37.4 billion or £31.8 billion) in 2024.
