[STORY] AGE NINETEEN (Episode 03)

Episode 03.

“Who are you ?” I asked the voice. “I’m your oldest sister Anabel” she responded. I asked her a lot of questions, and she provided me answers. We spent nearly two hours talking. “Tear out the first, the third and the thirteenth page of the diary, before you return the book.” Anabel instructed. I did what she asked, and retired to my bedroom, trying to act normal.

I had every information that I needed on the pages I tore out. Besides if I had any questions, all I had to do was to go to the orange tree, where my sister was laid to rest. According to Anabel, she collapsed on the eve of her birthday, and didn’t know anything about the curse until she got to the after world. Ever since then, she tried speaking to my other sisters but they didn’t understand. She went to their dreams, she spoke to them whenever they came around the orange tree but they simply thought they had an evil spirit.

So here I was, a soon to be nineteen years old adult, with the destiny of every girl child in the family in my palms. Every decision I made counted, I could choose to do nothing, and join my sisters on my birthday or choose to confront Dad, and help him break the curse. My mind was made up, and I wasn’t going to let my generation down. “I will do this for the women resting and for those that are yet to be born.” I said aloud and beat my hand on my chest.

“Dad” I said to my father, snapping him out of his thoughts. “Are you okay ?” My tone showed concern. “Yes! Yes!” He responded, trying to cover up. I sat on the sofa in his bedroom, right next to him and crossed my arms round his neck. “I know about the curse, and I’m not going to die.” He snapped back to reality, gazing at me in an unsteady pattern. Tears flowed freely down his face and he responded “How do we break it ?”
