Meanwhile, as an upcoming artist(lad), you can check out the package(s) we have for you here on how to take over the industry, as you scale through 7 hidden secrets why Nigeria Upcoming Artists will never grow famous.
Below are the list of 7 types of hip-hop artists we have in 2018:
1. The Modenine’s (Dead to the music )
These are the rap forefathers who have either said they are done putting out albums in Nigeria, or didn’t utter a word before they disappear. While, occasionally, some may get a guest verse on 9ice’s song, or work with Pasuma, some are just gone. And, somehow, we don’t usually expect much from them. In addition, some are behind bars.
Others include; “RuggedMan”, “eLDee”, “Eedris Abdulkareem”, “Naeto C”, “Sinzu” etc.
2. The M.I’s (They’re trying sha)
Sometimes we expect much more than we get from these men. While, some of them pull up a beyond on us, some drop some forever-anticipated album, full of shits. Some are doing their stuffs, trying out other genres, some do albums once in three years, and the relevance of some keeps dwindling.
Others include; Terry Tha Rapman (TR), VEC, Jesse Jagz et al.
3. The Olamide’s (Street and shaku shaku is the thing)
Why are they hip-hop? They are rappers. Every other thing is street vibe. They influence the “pop culture,” in the garages, ghettos etc, and can easily tell Don Baba J not to come to the Mainland. A fraction of them can still make hits, some are struggling at it, while the most part live on past glory.
Others include; Reminisce, Lil Kesh, Chinko Ekun, Slimcase, Flex B etc.
4. The Falz’s (They rap, but on funny-funny beats)
Afro rap ti take over. This category don’t sing, most times, but they do pop rap, by making use of the best Afro’s or dancehall beats in town. Many of them even enlist dope Afrobeatists to sing for them.
When Falz is working some dope shii with Simi or Yemi Alade, CDQ is on something with Reeky Baby, and Ycee is away for some Trap holiday. Even Olamide used Alternative beat for Journey Of A Thousand Miles. “Guess what? My name, my name, my name, pon pon pon pon”.
5. The Dremo’s (New school, no hit single)
These are the ones using the Car sha ma dupe. They are mainstream rappers, but dem no wan hammer. Their career come dey be like Kenny Blaq skit.
Others include; BlaqBonez, Oladips, Obadice, Zlatan Ibile, Davolee
6. The Boogey’s (Hardcore feat. Underground)
They don’t like compromising their identity as real hip-hop artists. And, they seem ok with being underground. Their lyrical job is tight, but their place in the mainstream, is so tiny. They are descendants of Modo.
Others include; Eclipse, A-Q
7. The Wizkid’s
Lmao. A church woman once proclaim to stop listening to hip-hop artists like Wizkid. Since the church people say they are hip-hop, let’s agree.
Others include; Davido, and everybody that’s not Frank Edwards or Nathaniel Bassey.
