“We Are Not Responsible For Cross River’s Traditional Leader’s Death” – Police
The Cross River State Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Inuwa Hafiz has said that the police is not responsible for the death of a 70-year-old monarch, His Royal Highness Henry Okong, who died in custody of the command.
Hafiz, while speaking with DAILY POST on Friday, said that the Police were expecting the family member to come with an independent medical practitioner to carry out autopsy.
“With this, the public would know what actually killed the man. The man slummed and was rushed to the hospital where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor. He did not die of torture as alleged.
“It is not the police that killed him; we are ready for any autopsy, we are not going to cover up anything, we are eager and want to support the family to come with a doctor to conduct autopsy,” he stated.
The late monarch was arrested in Buanchor community in Boki Local Government Area of Cross River State over allegation of encouraging youths to lynch an aged woman who the youths said was responsible for the death of young people in the community.
He died in the custody of the X-Squad Police at the state Police command headquarters, Calabar.
