Thomas Tuchel sacking will affect Romelu Lukaku’s Chelsea future – Giuseppe Marotta
Inter Milan CEO Giuseppe Marotta says it is ‘difficult to predict’ Romelu Lukaku’s Chelsea future following Thomas Tuchel’s sacking.
Tuchel was relieved of his duties at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday morning following the club’s 1-0 defeat to Dinamo Zagreb in their Champions League group stage opener.
It comes after the German lost the confidence of the club’s board and playing squad with Graham Potter now set to replace him in west London.
Lukaku was among the high-profile departures during a busy summer at Stamford Bridge, returning to Inter Milan on loan just a year on from his £97million move from the Nerazzurri.
Last December, the Belgium international gave an explosive interview where he hit out at Tuchel’s tactics, insisting he was not happy with his role under the manager.
Now that Tuchel has been dismissed, it raises the possibility of the striker being part of Chelsea’s future plans once again with his current loan deal with Inter not including any obligation to make the deal permanent.
‘It’s fresh news. I don’t know what the effects will be,’ Marotta told Sky Italia, reacting to Tuchel’s sacking.
‘We absolutely want to get the best contribution out of Lukaku, and then at the end of the season we’ll sit down and discuss him with Chelsea.
‘I don’t know if a change of coaches means that his return is to be automatic, it’s difficult to predict today.’
Lukaku has scored once so far for Inter this term, missing their last two games through injury.
Following his departure from Stamford Bridge, Chelsea brought in former Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to spearhead their attack, signing the Gabon international from Barcelona.
Upon arriving at Chelsea, Aubameyang said: ‘It will be an honour and a joy again [to play with Tuchel], we had some good times in Dortmund together so I am really happy to play for him again. We will achieve some big things, I am sure of this and I will try to help the team.’
Aubameyang previously worked under Tuchel at Borussia Dortmund but their reunion would last less than a week, with the striker playing just 59 minutes under his old manager before his dismissal.
