“Fred, right?” She asked, with a broad smile.

I nodded my head, reciprocating her smiles.
.
“Baby, is that you?” I asked, halfway into leaning in for a kiss.

My approaching lips met a resisting finger.

My heart skipped seventeen beats.

“I must be getting way ahead of myself, already” I thought to myself.

Then this lady said something that was to leave me apologizing for the next five plus minutes.
.
THE SIXTEENTH (When the Table Turns)

Episode 06.
.
My phone began to ring, at that instant. Mandy was my caller. I looked at the lady on the wheels and again at my phone. The lady on the wheels wasn’t holding a phone, so there was no way she could have been the one that’d dialed my number. With utmost shock, my gaze met with her smiley face.
.
I picked up the call.
.
“Hey, baaabyyyy. I am assuming you’ve met Olivia, yeah?” Mandy asked, excitedly.

“Where are you?” I asked, unsure how exactly to react to what had just played out.

Mandy giggled and said, “Olivia will be bringing you home to me. See you soon, love.”

Mandy said that she couldn’t wait to see me. She ended the call afterwards.
.
“I am truly sorry, Olivia. I thought you were…”.

“…It’s fine, Fred, I understand”. Olivia said, her smiles still broadening by the seconds.

I apologized about eighteen more times before we pulled up in front of a massive gate.
.
Olivia’s hunk soon commanded the gate to be opened.
.
The compound was indeed a sight to behold. It was vast and beautifully decorated with various flowers. The atmosphere smelled differently. The lightning in “here” could easily make anyone assume night for day.

At intervals, I saw people, in sets of twos, walking pass. They were in uniforms (not the military kind).

Everything about “these” was alien to me, and my demeanor didn’t even hide that fact.

Mandy didn’t tell me about any of these.

“This was too much to have skipped one’s memories, na.” I thought to myself.
.
“Shall we?” Olivia asked, motioning me towards the entrance to the massive building.

I took a deep breath, rearranged my suit, and then I nodded.”After you, my dear.” I said.
.
Olivia opened the door, leading me into the interior of this edifice. The sight of the decor here left my mouth agape. This could only be best described as “heaven on earth”.

I’ve been to a couple of beautiful places in the past, but nothing coming to mind was as beautiful; compared to this one.

This house looked more like a palace; a palace of a King with a very good taste and class.

Everything in sight was sparkling, as though newly bought. One look at these, and you needn’t be told that a fortune have gone into everything here.
.
“How could this have skipped Mandy’s mind? Is it even possible that this had skipped Mandy’s mind? How could she not have told me anything about this? What is she hoping to achieve with this; the look of surprise on my face?”

A lot of questions were flooding my head in that instant. So much so that I’d been too carried away, I didn’t even hear Olivia point me to a seat, asking me to feel at home. She’d had to say it the second time, to have snapped me back to self consciousness.

“Tha…thank you, my dear”. I said again, as I found and sank into one of the most comfortable couches my “behind” had ever graced.
.
“I’ll go and fetch you, Mandy, now.” Olivia announced, before she walked elegantly up the staircase.
.
The moment Olivia climbed out of sight; I took that opportunity to look around, as far as my eyes could go. More than once, I was tempted to stand up, walk around to see things “close-up”. Especially to touch and feel this particular mind-blowing; unbelievable antique that’d caught my eyes, the second I stepped in

(One of many, that Mandy had appropriately positioned in a corner of the very vast sitting room)
.
Olivia and Mandy took their time.

It’s been fifteen minutes since Olivia went upstairs to get Mandy, and she has still not reemerged.

My mind and entire being had been too preoccupied trying to wrap my head around what I was seeing; asking rhetorical questions like “who exactly is Mandy?”, making possible excuses as to why Mandy had preferred that I saw these, with my own eyes, rather than being told over the phone.
.
I was lost in thought momentarily, that I didn’t know when the two women emerged and began to descend the staircase, this time, with two other guys in their company.

It was halfway into their descending, that I noticed their presence.

I looked up, towards the staircase, to a sight I didn’t understand at first. I had to be sure, so I blinked twice.

To be continued…
