Episode 11.

I was the only one panicking all through the night. Ray didn’t say a word.

He only sat beside me on the bed, running a finger on his lower lip.

“Ray, our daughter is in a critical condition. If we delay giving her medications the slightest bit…”.

His phone rang.

It was the same number that Coker Lee had used to call him earlier.

I watched Ray smile mischievously as he connected the call.

“What did you just do, you bastard!!!”. Coker Lee snarled.

I was confused. What had Raymond done that had Coker Lee so angry?

Raymond cleared his throat. “In two hours time, the huge money will be sent to the public and they will know how much money your father had embezzled before he resigned last month”.

“Do you think I am threatened by that?”.

“Right from time, you have always protected your father’s reputation more than yours. I know how much you value your father’s reputation more than your life. When you are ready, call me”. He disconnected the line.

“Ray, how were you able to get such huge money from his father’s account?”.

“My spy is his father’s closest friend’s son. We all went to the same secondary school. I am going to kill two birds with a stone. I have the power and evidence to arrest Coker Lee and take back my daughter”.

“How will you do that?”.

“Just watch and see”.

From that day, my respect for him grew.

My daughter was abandoned infront of the hospital one hour after Coker Lee’s discussion with Ray and the doctors had rushed out to help her to the hospital through a stretcher.

The next morning, I rushed to the hospital with Ray to see my child and discovered that she was even looking brighter than she was yesterday.

Coker Lee walked into the ward she was kept to meet us.

I glared at him and before I knew what was happening, he went on his knees. He faced Ray. “Why didn’t you file the case against me even if you had a proof?”.

“You are pitiful, that was why”. Ray said.

Coker Lee sobbed. “Till the end, you were better than me. Till the end”.

“Why don’t you leave the past, Coker? Why? I am not your competitor. We are men now. Open your eyes to realize that”.

“You had the best wife and a beautiful daughter. You are not as financially bouyant as I am but you are contented and happy. I lived my life trying to pay back for something that was not your fault. I wanted to get your wife because I wanted to get at you. I lived my life for you and not myself”.

“Go and start living your life for yourself from now on, Coker”.

“How do I do that? I am older now”.

“You can do that. You have years ahead of you”. He lifted him to his feet.

Coker Lee turned to me. “I am sorry about everything. I pray you now understand the true value of family and how without it, life feels meaningless. Don’t ever let go of your family, not even for fame. In everything we gain in life, we come back and realize that family was where we started from and where we will long for in the end of everything we once thought was more important”. He patted Ray on his shoulder and walked out of the ward.

I was touched by everything that had happened and I was happy that Coker Lee was able to retrace his steps.

I hugged Ray.

“Mummy, daddy”. We heard Zoolander whisper and we released each other and turned to her and sat by her on the sick bed. She was sitting up and smiling at us.

We rushed to hug her. She was recovering so fast. It was obvious that Coker Lee’s doctor had treated her perfectly last night. Even her bruise was healing so fast. Obviously an expensive treatment.

After we had hugged our daughter and observed that in no time, she will be walking back home with us, Ray looked up at me. “Patricia, are you ready to come back as my wife?Are you ready to live with me again, this time forever? “.
