[STORY] Road to Nowhere (Episode 12)
Episode 12.
Mrs Ololade had her room but she stayed in her husband room most of the time.
“Em… Em…. Em… Actually, I wanted to check if my dad was around”, Dammy said stammering.
Mrs Ololade laughed for some seconds.
“Do you think every day is Christmas? Apart from the day he was sick, have you ever seen him around at this time of the day? Don’t you know he would be at work? Get lost”.
Dammy walked out of the room quietly. She got to her room feeling very sad. She picked up her phone and saw a message from David. She smiled and replied his message. They had a lovely conversation that Dammy didn’t take note of the time.
An hour had passed and they were still communicating.
After a while, Dammy noticed that she was hungry. It was then she remembered that she had not eaten since she came back from school.
“David, I have to go now. I want to go to eat and I also want to do my assignments”, Dammy texted to David.
“Okay dear. Love you”, David texted back.
Dammy didn’t bother to reply his message. She headed to the kitchen to serve herself.

“Dammy, I’m leaving this school”.
Those words sounded like bombshell to Dammy. Those words came from Mr Philips some minutes after he had ushered Dammy into his office.
“Why are you leaving, sir”, Dammy asked.
“I got a job in a large company and their pay is huge”, Mr Philips replied.
Dammy couldn’t say anything. She felt so sad. Mr Philips had been her mentor and her school counselor. No other teacher could take his place in her life. “What am I going to do now? Who is going to lecture me about spiritual things? Who is going to encourage me? Who is going to understand my rude behavior?”, Dammy thought.
Mr Philips could tell that Dammy wasn’t happy that he was leaving the school. “Dammy, don’t feel bad. I will be coming around to check you once in a while. I’ll also keep in touch with you by communicating with you on phone”.
“Okay sir”, Dammy replied unhappily.
Mr Philips felt led by the Holy Spirit to win Dammy’s soul for Christ, but, he felt it was absurd to lead her into Christ at that moment, so, he neglected the Holy Spirit.
“Dammy cheer up, you are going to be fine. I promise you”, Mr Philips said to her.
Dammy walked back to her class with a broken heart. She tried to act as if everything was fine when she got to the class. Some of her classmates were busy discussing, some were giggling, some were playing around. She sat down on her seat quietly. It was a free period and they could do whatever they liked. Despite the class was rowdy, David noticed something was wrong with Dammy. He walked up to her.
“Dammy, what’s wrong? You are not your normal self”, He asked.
“I’m fine”, Dammy replied.
“No, you are not. Whats wrong?”, David said.
“Mr Philips is leaving our school”, Dammy said looking unhappy.
“Yeah, he told me about it. Is that why you are sad?”, David asked.
Dammy nodded.
“Listen dear, that shouldn’t make you sad. He is going to a better place. You should be happy for him”.
“I’m happy for him, but, there would be no one to encourage me anymore. He really understands me, who would take his place in my life? ” , Dammy said.
“Dammy, I’m here for you. I promise to do anything you would want Mr Philips to do for you. I’ll even do more than that. Cheer up baby”, David said.
“I’m not a baby”, Dammy replied.
“Yeah, I know. But, you are my baby. Now, give me a smile”,David said and Dammy smiled.
“I love that smile”, David complemented.
“Thanks dear”, Dammy replied.
“You know I would do anything for my baby”, David said.
They continued talking to each other till the period was over.
Dammy’s driver was around and she was preparing to go to the car when someone called her back.
“Dammy! Dammy!” Esther called as she tried to catch up with Dammy.
Esther was one of Dammy’s classmates. They were not that close, but, Esther was a cheerful and friendly person. Whenever Dammy needed something in the class, Esther made sure she gave it to her. Esther was also a child of God.
“Oh! Esther! It’s you. How are you doing today?’, Dammy asked.
“I’m fine, thank you. Actually, I would like to discuss something with you”, Esther said.
“Esther, can it wait till tomorrow? My driver is around”, Dammy said.
“It can’t wait. It’s very important that I discuss it with you today. I won’t take much of your time. Please!”, Esther pleaded.
