Episode 11.

“Thinking about something again”, David interrupted her thoughts.

Dammy almost jumped up in fright. “You scared me!”,
“I’m sorry I did,” David replied apologetically.

There was a brief moment of silence between them.
After some minutes, Dammy said, “I’m really sorry for being rude in the morning. I’m sometimes like that.

“It’s okay. It’s my fault, I was demanding for the unthinkable. I’m really sorry, Dammy. I was just trying to express the way I felt. Anyways, why are you not going home yet?”, David asked.

“My driver is not around yet,” Dammy replied.

“Oh! You have a personal driver? ”

“Yeah, I do”, Dammy replied without a sense of pride.

“That sounds great. What were you thinking about earlier before I came here?”, David said.

“Actually, I’ve been thinking about a lot of things recently. Before you came, I was thinking about Christianity”.

“Christianity?”, David asked.

“Yeah, Christianity. I was in Mr Philips office during the break period and he told me a lot about Christianity. He made me realize that being a Christian doesn’t only entail going to church, it’s beyond that”

“Actually, that’s very true. Christianity is not only about reading your Bible, it’s not only about praying to God, it’s not only about going to church. It’s about been a keen follower of Christ and doing the will of the Father. If you identify yourself as a Christian and you are not born again, you are not a genuine Christian. As a Christian, your lifestyle must be in accordance to that of Jesus. You have to totally surrender yourself to Him and allow Him to be your Lord and Savior. He shouldn’t be your Savior only, He should also be your Lord. He should rule your life. Then, you would be a genuine Christian”.

Dammy couldn’t hide her amazement as David spoke. “How do you know all these?”, She asked.

David smiled and said, “My Dad is a pastor and I grew up knowing all these things”.

“When you know all these, why are you still after me. Don’t you think it might make you sin against God?”, Dammy asked.

David turned sober and after a minute, he said,” Dammy, there are a lot of things you don’t know about me. You can’t blame me for my actions, it’s really not my fault. My parents are full time ministers of God. They own a very big church. They go on different revival programs, crusades, vigils and meeting most of the time leaving me alone at home”.

“Are you their only child?,” Dammy asked.

“Yes, I am, and that is the problem. I get really bored. I spend most times reading my books and doing my assignment. But, thats not all. I tried doing some things to while away my time. I started watching movies, but, their contents were highly erotic. It led me to masturbation”

Dammy’s mouth was wide open, she was shocked. “You masturbate?”, She asked carefully.

“That was before. I realized a long time ago that it was really bad and it could lead me to hell. So, I started praying and reading my Bible. I stopped watching erotic movies and I moved away from everything that could get me contaminated”.

“Wow, that’s epic. So, has it been easy?” Dammy asked.

“To be truthful, it has not been easy at all. When I stopped all those things, I tried to occupy myself in some other things that could add values to my life. I started reading positive books, but, that didn’t stop me from being lonely. It was then I felt I needed someone. I noticed you in the class and felt that if you could be my friend, I would be able to finally stop doing all those things”, David said sorrowfully.

“It’s okay. I’ll try to help you where I can. I’m just going to be your friend, we won’t be in any serious relationship. Would that be fine?”, Dammy asked.

“Absolutely! I’m okay with that”, David said overjoyed.

Suddenly, Mr Martins, Dammy’s driver, entered the class.

“Oh! My driver is here. I’ll talk to you tomorrow”, Dammy said as she stood up from the chair she was seating.

“Tomorrow is too long. I’ll chat up with you if you don’t mind”, David said.

“Okay, you are free to chat up with me. Bye”

“Bye dear”, David said to Dammy who was walking out the classroom already.

Dammy got home feeling happy. There were a lot of reasons for her happiness. She was happy that she had a driver to drive her to school daily and drive her back home. She was also happy to know more about David. She promised herself to be his friend, nothing else attached. She felt like discussing that with her dad, so, as she got inside her room. She changed her cloth and headed to her dad’s room. She was welcomed into the room by her hostile mom.

“What are you looking for in my husband’s room?”, Mrs Ololade asked.
