Episode 07.

“Can we stroll out together, my princess?” Mr Ololade said to Dammy.

Dammy was taken aback. It took some seconds before she could regain her composure. She replied with mixed feelings, “Sure dad”.

She rose from her bed and moved towards her dad. Mr Ololade held her hands and they moved out of the house together.

Mr Ololade cracked jokes as they strolled together, he told her a myth of what made butterflies colored when they came across a beautiful butterfly. Dammy wondered if her dad came back from work just to stroll out with her.

Finally, Mr Ololade said,” Dammy, I’m very sorry for what your mom did today. I was the one who took the meat from the pot when I returned from work. I’m really sorry about the punishment”.

Dammy was surprised that her dad took her on a walk just to apologise. At that moment, she felt real love. She felt she could really confide in her dad.

“Dad, is mom my biological mother?,

Why do you ask?, Mr Ololade said trying to hide his surprise

Well, she doesnt treat me like her daughter. She insults me and beats me at every slightest opportunity. At this point, I can clearly say that her attitude towards me is affecting my academics, social life and psychological life. As a matter of fact, its affecting my safety. I was almost kid……”, Dammy stopped talking because she didn’t want her mom punished by her dad.

“Darling, go on. What happened?”, Mr Ololade said concernedly.

“Dad, it’s nothing”

“Sweetheart, I’m your dad. You shouldnt hide anything from me. Please, tell me about it”, Mr Ololade pleaded.

“Okay dad. I’ll tell you on one condition”

“And what’s the condition?”, Mr Ololade asked

Dammy faced her dad and said,” You would not tell Mom about it and you wouldn’t react negatively to mom because of it”

“Anything for my princess. I promise not to tell your mom. So, tell me what happened?”

Dammy replied soberly, “I was nearly kidnapped few days ago while trekking to school”.

“What!” Mr Ololade exclaimed.

“I told your mom to always drive you to school, why did you trek?”

Dammy gave a fake smile, “Mom! She told me that I would get spoilt if she drives me to school. I have been trekking to school all this while”, Dammy narrated how she was saved from the kidnappers, her physics test and how her mom flogged her when she got home.

Mr Ololade was very mad at his wife. Dammy could sense the rising anger in his dad’s eyes.

“Dad, you promised me not to tell Mom or react negatively to her”,

“Dammy, I need to deal with her. I wasn’t aware of any of this. If I didn’t take a permission from office today, I would never have known”, Mr Ololade said angrily.

Dammy held her dad’s hand and said, “Dad, if you really love me, you won’t do anything to mom. I have forgiven her for what she did. I would like you to calm down and forgive her also”

“Dammy, you really have a sweet heart. Despite what your mom did to you, you are still pleading on her behalf. I forgive her for your sake”.

“Thanks Dad”, Dammy said happily.

“You are welcome dear. I’ll arrange a driver for you that would be taking you to school daily.

“Wow! I’d really love that. Thank you dad”, Dammy said happily.
Mr Ololade took Dammy to a suya joint and bought suya for Dammy. Dammy couldn’t contain her joy. She wished everyday would be like that. She told her dad to get some suya for her mom too and her dad agreed. They started walking back home together . They were only few metres to their house when they saw a pretty woman who was about to commit suicide. She was trying to hang herself with a rope on a beautiful tree in the front of a house.

Dammy’s heart skipped a beat as she sighted the woman.
