[STORY] MY SPIRITUAL WIFE (Episode 23)

Episode 23.

There is a means to either “turn off” or “Increase” the volume of the music blasting from the club, in here. It was simply by a push of a button. This ensured that people in this session enjoyed their money’s worth to the fullest, with a lot of comfortable options at their disposal.

I chuckled at the sound of Jasmine’s question. I leaned backward, so I could get a good look at the mouth that’d just spat those words and this was when I discovered that Jasmine hadn’t just asked a random question. The expression on her face depicted she meant every word; she needed to know the answer to this question.

“How could you have come up with such a question in the first place?” I quarried, a little more seriously than I normally would.

“Who is Oluchi to you?” Jasmine asked again, readjusting her positioning, seeming very interested in what my response to this question was going to be.
.
“Not Again!” I thought to myself. “Could it be that Jasmine also attended the same primary school with us and had known Oluchi and me from back then?”
.
I finally assumed it was the latter and didn’t bother asking any more questions but simply proceeded with my answer. “She was my very good friend”. I answered.

“Just your friend?”

“Yeah! Should we have been more, at that very young age?” I asked with a playful grin.

“So why did you desert her? After all she did for you?”

“How do you mean?” I asked, rather curious.

I had absolutely no idea what Jasmine had meant by that question.

“I noticed that Oluchi usually brought you food from home, and it was always only the both of you together. You seemed to be a loner, and she seemed to be your only friend at the time. I was just surprised at the sudden transition that got you separated.”
.
Jasmine seemed to know much; too much even, but for some reason, I wasn’t too keen on finding out how she knew so much.
.
“I was equally surprised. At one point I thought Oluchi was avoiding me or something. Then I no longer saw her like I usually would…”

“…did you look for her? Did you care to know what’d happened to her?” Jasmine retorted, angrily. “You simply felt very relaxed and comfortable on the other side of your barrier, yeah?”

“Barrier? What barrier are you talking about, Jasmine?” I asked, confused.

“Never mind.”

This topic seemed to have really upset Jasmine. I had no idea why. But it was just momentarily. Jasmine soon got back to being much like she’d been all night; lively. She leaned over again to plant me a kiss. To tell me how amazing I was and how she looked forward to many more of these experiences with me.

Jasmine said she enjoyed my company a lot and thanked me for allowing her to give me this treat.
.
Jasmine laid a bit longer on my chest, seemingly savoring the moment. She told me most of the things I needed to know about her and inquired to know more about me as well.

Jasmine inquired about my stepmother and how my growing up was, too.
.
By 4:25 AM, the club was almost empty. One after the other, very “wasted” boys and girls dragged themselves out.

Jasmine had long fallen asleep on my chest.
.
My phone (which I’d placed on vibration the moment I walked into Bloops) has been blowing up all night long. It first started as soon as I got here (shortly before Jasmine showed up). The persistence of this caller was as though my house was on fire and as a good neighbor, this call was aimed at having me run over, to pick whatever I could, before it all goes up in smoke.

The last time I checked, I’d missed eighty-two calls and still counting. It had all been from the same number; Janet’s number.

I heard the vibration again. It had actually woken me up from sleep. I knew very well that this one signified that I had a text message.

It was from the same number.

I opened it to read, “Paul! TELL ME YOU DID NOT!”
