Episode 09.

“And you?” Charlie asked

“I’m Morenikeji, you can call me Keji”

“Alright” Charlie left her, while Keji walked around the house. She felt a little bit comfortable but the thought of Nelson weighed her down, she cried profusely like a baby.

Nelson went back home with sadness.
“Honey what happened,” Clara asked

“So you can call me honey?, Clara what did you do to Keji”

“What did she say I do to her”

“Shut your mouth up, she’s gone”

“She’s gone? oh!” she faked tears “May her soul rest in peace”

“Rest in peace? How? Did I tell you she’s dead” He carried his bag and went back to work.

At work, he confided in one of his colleagues; Benjamin “I will advise you to inform the police and her families, if they ask after their daughter what will you tell them, that you can’t find her?” Benjamin asked.

“I will inform them, thanks friend” he appreciated.

Keji slept off where she was, she woke up to food and fruits placed on a tray before her, she wiped her face and ate hungrily. Charles joined her.

“Thank you, Charlie, I appreciate” she continued eating.

“Can I get to know you more”

“In a nutshell, I’m from Ogun state, I lived in a nearby village. I’m Into food vending” she took a deep breath “I left home because my husband impregnated another woman”

“That’s too bad” Charles cut in.

“You’ll get to know me better as time goes on, thanks for your hospitality”

Charlie frowned “Your husband no try at all, impregnate two women at a time. Maybe he’s the one threatening me”

“Threatening you, as how?”

“Keji you are being followed, an unknown number called, warning me to take you out of my house”

“What!” Keji dropped her spoon in fear

“Male or female” Her voice shivered

“Male, I guess your husband”

“No it can’t be my husband where will I go now?” she asked panicking

“Fear not, I’ve decided to keep you, let them do their worst, but to be on a safer side; I and you will go to the nearest police station to make a report. Your husband might have reported you missing, so I don’t get myself into trouble, you understand what I mean?”

Keji went on her knees, “Yes I understand, Thank you so much”

“Stand up please, I’m not doing this for you, but for your unborn child. what I will just tell you is anytime I’m not around don’t open the door to anyone”

“Ok”, she nodded in agreement.

“Have you started antenatal?”

“No, not yet time, few months to this time”

“When it is time, let me know.” They headed to the police station, they wrote a statement about the threat. The police began an investigation on the unknown number. They also called Nelson telling him not to worry about Keji “She is safe” they said.

Nelson was no longer active, always drinking and thinking about Keji, Clara called Mercy “Mercy I’m tired, Nelson is not eating my food, is salary doesn’t get home, always moody and aggressive, Keji is his happiness, I don’t know why he asked me to come over, he prefers to eat from that Dara girl than eat my food, Mercy I’m tired” she sobbed

“Let me finish with that Dara girl, I hate her with passion, when I’m done with her I will see to your predicament” Mercy ended the call.

Charlie was returning from work one night when some boys attacked him, he was kidnapped and put in an uncompleted building, “Instead of heading to our warning you went to involve the police”. They beat him mercilessly.

They hailed their leader as he walked in “Oscar one!”

“Charles” Oscar exclaimed

“Boss you know am”

“Na my brother” Oscar rushed to him, embarrassing him, he broke down in tears

“Brother! Why? Who send you?” Charlie asked faintly.
