[STORY] FORSAKEN (Episode 04)

Episode 04.

My aunt was usually the last to come home. It had never bothered me until that fateful day. Uncle came back from work at 3:pm, I was hoping he would apologize for his actions earlier on , but that didn’t happen. He asked me to serve his lunch in their bedroom. The kids were in their room taking a nap, and my aunty wouldn’t be back until 6:00pm. I knew he had a plan, but I had no choice. I went inside the bedroom with a tray of food, he stood up from the bed and held my waist, lust written all over him, I screamed and told him, I was going to tell my aunt. He asked me to try, it will be my words against yours. Your aunty definitely wouldn’t believe you. I pushed him hard, he fell on the bed and I ran out of the room.

At about 6:30pm, my aunt returned home. I didn’t know what to do. Should I tell her or not. I resorted not to, as she might not believe me. Mr. Joel’s harassment continued, until one day, my aunt walked into him, in the act of trying to force himself on me. I recounted to my aunt all that had been happening, but to my greatest surprise. Mr. Joel twisted the whole story. He told my aunt that I have been trying to seduce him from the very first day I stepped into the house. My aunt believed him and sent me packing instantly. I knew I couldn’t go back to my grandpa who had already labeled me cursed. I had to face life alone. With nowhere to go and no one to call upon, after begging my aunt for almost two hours to no avail, I took my bag, and headed out with no destination in mind.

After wandering for hours, I saw an open church with few persons inside, apparently, they were having a service that night. I walked in, it was about 8pm. I dropped my bag in a corner and went outside to get something to eat with the N200 I had on me. I didn’t participate much in the service, I had different thoughts running through my mind, all I needed and prayed for was a miracle, someone that would take me in.

Towards the end of the service, the pastor announced that a family was in need of someone that would care for their children while they were away. I was really happy and convinced God had heard and answered my prayers. At the close of the service, I met with the pastor and told him I was interested. He told me they needed someone that would be living with them and asked if I could do that “My God!. This is indeed a prayer answered, I thought” sir I shall, I answered, the pastor called the couple and introduced me to them. Fortunately, they liked me. I followed them home that day and resumed duty.

The couple was well to do. The man, Mr. Peter works with an oil firm and the woman a banker. I was given a room in the big house and I was also put on a N10,000 salary. Life couldn’t have been better, I said to myself. I was willing to prove to them how much I appreciated their kindness to me.

Days rolled into weeks and weeks into months, I was happy with the Peters. The couple was nice and their twin children, Benedict and Benedicta loved me so much. Mr. Peter liked me so much, he said I was respectful, intelligent and hardworking. He appreciated the way I cared for his children, so he decided to enroll me for JAMB.
