[STORY] FORSAKEN (Episode 03)

Episode 03.

The news of grandma’s death was like a stab in my heart. How could Mama do this to me? How did she expect me to live alone in this cold and wicked world? She was the only person that loved me genuinely from her heart. My life was at a stand still. I knew things could ever be the same again. I felt like I had lost everyone in one person.

Mama was laid to rest a month later. After the funeral rites, and burial ceremony, families and friends bid goodbye and left. I was left at the mercy of my grandpa. I knew he didn’t like me, so I just lived with him like a stranger, he didn’t care about me, he beats and starved me of food at will.

Aunty Faith came visiting one day, and papa told her to go with me, according to him, seeing me made him angry. Aunty Faith tried to talk him out of the idea of sending me away, but apparently his mind had been made up.

I was partially excited to go with Aunty Faith, because I thought it couldn’t be as difficult as living with an old man who doesn’t even want me around. On a second thought, I wondered what my life would be at aunty Faith’s house knowing fully well I wasn’t her favourite niece.

We arrived at her three bedroom apartment by evening, she had an average family. They were living fine to a very large extent. Her husband was the vice principal of a public school, while my aunt owned a big saloon. I promised myself to behave and be useful so that my aunt would not regret taking me in.

The first few months of my stay was okay, I helped my aunty with the house chores which include cleaning the house, washing the clothes of every member of the family and bathing and caring for my little cousins precious and peculiar. I was also involved in their school runs as well. My aunt got to love me and appreciated my presence.

Things turned sour when my aunt’s husband wanted to be intimate with me. That day, I was bathing when I heard someone walked inside the house, I quickly tied my towel and rushed out because I wasn’t expecting my aunt, her husband or children to be home as it was just 11:30am. Upon coming out, I saw my uncle trying to open the door to their room “Aha uncle, you scared me”, I wondered who entered the house because I wasn’t expecting any of you by now”. “You are right, I forgot an important list at home, so I came to get it now that we are on break” “Okay sir”, I said and turned my back to continue with my bath.

“You look so sexy in that towel of yours” he said, I was shocked to hear those words from him. I stood speechless as though I was glued to the floor. He came closer and started touching me in an annoying manner.

I regained my sanity and sapped out of my confused state. What do you think you are doing sir? For heaven’s sake, you are my aunty’s husband. I managed to say. “don’t worry, she wouldn’t find out” he said. I looked at him, but this time with anger, I rushed into the bathroom and locked myself in. I refused to come out until I was sure he had gone. I was worried, and prayed he didn’t repeat such behavior. But that was the beginning of more to come.
