[STORY] FATED TO DIE (Episode 07)

Jason suddenly jerked out of sleep, sweating profusely, as Nnana calmed him down by massaging his shoulders.

“Did you find answers?” She asked almost in a whisper

“I WAS MARRIED TO MELLISA” Jason replied, his expression spoke of fear and confusion “but how is this possible?”

“How is what possible” she asked leaving his bedside, walking back to the table, taking her seat comfortably.

Jason, followed suit, sitting opposite her.

“Everything Nnana. You mean to tell me that in my past life, I was married to Mellisa? I mean…”

“Calm down son. It would help if you talked about what you saw”

“I was bearing the name, Alliandro and Mellisa was Ceceliana. She was the daughter of a chief, in other words from a rich background, high status family, whilst I was just a poor orphan, no family of my own, no money and no status but I loved Cece a whole lot, that’s what I called her though (his face was lighting up with a radiant smile) she was the most beautiful girl I have ever seen, she’s beautiful inside out. We were so much in love but her parents felt I was not deserving of their daughter but Cece was strong, she stuck by me all through, she chose me over her parents, got married to me and we had a beautiful daughter together; Annie. I fell really sick and was at the verge of dying, our daughter was just five years old then. I told Cece not to embark on that journey, all in a bid to get me better, I was ready to face death but she refused, sacrificing her life for me, leaving me with our daughter all alone”

“What about now? I mean this present life, do you feel anything strange?”

“From when I started having those nightmares, flashes of memories with her, I felt different. But when I saw her for the first time in school, my heart immediately whispered to me that she was the one. As strange as this might sound, I love her a whole lot. I love my Cece and she’s still as beautiful as I remember her to be”

Nnana let out a soft chuckle, followed by a deep sigh.

“But Nnana, why doesn’t she remembers me? Or is that she’s as confused as me and probably seeking answers like me?”

“I doubt that son”

“What do you mean”

“The two of you can’t have this knowledge, its impossible, that alone will upset the law of nature. Protocols are going to be broken if you both recollect your entire past life together”

“So you are trying to tell me that Mellisa doesn’t know anything of her past life and probably would not?”

Nnana nodded in the affirmative.

“Then I’ll have to tell her myself” Jason said getting up from his seat

“And risk her seeing you as a stalker, an insane person?”

Jason stopped on his tracks, looking at Nnana confused.

“But am not insane, or am I?”

“Of course you are not, but somethings are better left unsaid and unknown”

“Nnana, you are confusing me again. Please tell me what you mean. Help me understand please”

“Ceceliana died in the past life. From what I saw, it was untimely. She had a bright future ahead of her in the past life but she died, why is that? She died to save you Alliandro, in other words, your love killed her in the past life. Now, you both reincarnated into this present life, a gift given to you from the creator, to make right decisions and live the life you couldn’t in the past, do you honestly wish to take that opportunity, this second chance, from Ceceliana?”

“Take? Am not taking anything from Ceceliana. We love each other and we deserve to be together forever, don’t we?”

“And that love got her killed in the past. Do you honestly want to repeat history?”

Jason collapsed into the chair, sighing deeply out of frustration.

“Now that I know everything, all I want is just to be with her and show her all the love I couldn’t in the past. It was hard living without her, raising our daughter without her; the pain was unbearable. And now, I have a chance to be with her again and I can’t do that also. Why on earth did I remember? It should have stayed a mystery, an uncovered secret. Why did I have to be the one to know of this?”

“Listen here son, the universe gave you a second chance, an opportunity to protect the woman you love so much from dying, by not being with her. Remember when I told you that destiny can never be cheated?”

“You always sing that into my ears whenever I came visiting”

Nnana laughed a bit, holding onto Jason’s hands, caressing his palms.

“Its your destiny to fall in love with her, just like its hers but am offering you a chance to cheat destiny and nature”

“Really? How?”

“Falling in love means you both being together and that eventually leads to her death right?” Jason nodded, to show he was following “why not make sure she doesn’t fall in love with you, that way she lives the life meant for her and you just have to watch her be happy from afar”

“That sounds good but somewhat hard. I owe her this much and I will do this for her but it’s going to be hard Nnana”

“I know son. I know”

“But what about our daughter?”

“She must have reincarnated into somebody else, not in any way connected to you both”

Leaving Nnana’s place, I felt every kind of emotion known to man; happiness, sadness, anxiety, calm, love, hatred, gratitude, regret.

This is indeed going to be very tough for even the strongest fellow to handle.

It was already dusk when I reached the mansion. Luckily for me, mum wasn’t home yet, I just rushed upstairs to take a cold shower, I really need to calm my nerves down.

Can I really do this? Can I really stay away from the woman I love so much?

“Listen here son, the universe gave you a second chance, an opportunity to protect the woman you love so much from dying, by not being with her. Remember when I told you that destiny can never be cheated?” I heard Nnana’s voice in my head, even as the cold water touched my body, sending shivers down my spine.

“Its your destiny to fall in love with her, just like its hers but am offering you a chance to cheat destiny and nature” I am going to get sick from this cold water but I can’t turn it off, I need it more than ever

“Falling in love means you both being together and that eventually leads to her death right? Why not make sure she doesn’t fall in love with you, that way she lives the life meant for her and you just have to watch her be happy from afar”

Turning off the shower, I stepped out into the bedroom, my towel tied firmly around my waist, water dripping from my hair down to my feet.

I have to do it. It is a duty that I must fulfil.

But how am I going to face her? How am I going to start?

TOMORROW IS SCHOOL!
