Peaky Blinders: First Soundtrack Released Date Announced!

It’s strange but true: since it was launched in 2013, the British hit series starring the most stylish gangsters on the small screen hasn’t had a soundtrack released. When you consider how important music is in Peaky Blinders, that’s pretty crazy. In the very first scene in the first episode, we see Tommy Shelby astride his horse, riding through the back streets of Birmingham to the cult track by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, “Red Right Hand” (made popular the first time around by the Scream franchise). Since then, every episode has begun with this rock track, which has been remixed on numerous occasions, including by PJ Harvey and a certain Snoop Dogg.

So why have the team behind Peaky Blinders waited until the release of Season 5 to announce a soundtrack? There can only be one reason: a dark story of copyright and big money.

But that’s all sorted now. You can finally get your hands on the official soundtrack album from November 15, which compiles the very best music from all five seasons in the form of a double CD (with a booklet taking us behind the scenes on the show), a triple vinyl and a digital release. You’ll find rock, folk, metal, a bit of pop and some more rock thrown in for good measure: PJ Harvey (including her version of “Red Right Hand”), Radiohead, Arctic Monkeys, The White Stripes, Royal Blood, The Last Shadow Puppets, Queens of the Stone Age, Black Sabbath, David Bowie, Laura Marling, Foals…

Who better than Cillian Murphy, aka Tommy ‘focking’ Shelby, to sum up the importance of music in the Peaky Blinders universe?
