One killed, two injured in Gombe violence

The Gombe State Police Command on Monday confirmed the death of a resident and injuries sustained by two persons in the renewed Lunguda/Waja conflict.

The state Public Relations Officer, Mahid Abubakar, in a telephone interview with our correspondent, described the attack as unfortunate.

“One person died while two others sustained injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment. We can’t disclose our next line of action but we will change our tactics.

“Personnel have been deployed there to ensure peaceful coexistence,” he said.

Meanwhile, Governor Muhammadu Yahaya has lamented the perennial attacks, while promising to change approach.

Yahaya, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof Ibrahim Njodi, said, “There is hardly any dividing line between the people of Lunguda and Waja in lieu of their long standing relationship covering critical areas like inter marriages, cuisines as well as cultural heritage and ceremonies.”

The governor however, warned that henceforth, the state government under his leadership “will not tolerate any person or group of persons bent on instigating violence in the area to achieve their selfish desires.”

He said the time has come for his administration to deploy a new approach in dealing with the crisis which has so far claimed lives and property worth millions of naira.
