No Abia State Polytechnic workers was dismissed – Prof Eboh
The Rector of Abia State Polytechnic, Aba, Professor Ezionye Eboh, has said that no worker in the institution has been issued a dismissal letter.
This is following a report that the school management has sacked about 500 academic and non-academic members of staff over what it tagged employment without proper due process, and cases of falsification of ages, forged First School Leaving Certificates including other related offences.
Reacting over the reports, Prof Eboh, while speaking with the school SUG Revitalization Team led by comrade Chinonso Alozie (SUG President) who paid him a visit on Thursday, told the team to disregard every peddling rumour that would tarnish the image of the school and as well disrupt the activities of the School Calendar.
According to him, “no worker has been issued a dismissal letter and his administration together with the state government are on top of the game to ensure sanity and tranquility.
During the visit, the SUG President together with his revitalization team officials had a closed door meeting with the rector and some top officials in the polytechnic community, and the agenda of the meeting was precisely on the welfare of the students and staff.
The Rector, in his words also assured the team that lectures would continue to go on despite the current condition ravaging the school.
More so, he expressed worry about the weariness of some students to update their BIO data on the school portal in order to hasten the publishing of the school I.D and stop to blame the administration for the delay they experience during collection of their I.D and also wish to inform that it is one of the criteria for writing the first semester exam as slated by first week of march and he warned that no one indebted to the school would be allowed to Participate in the exam.
Prof Eboh further stated that it is no longer business as usual as students feel reluctant about their studies ,he admonished that whosoever that does so is at his own peril or detriment.
He enjoined the students to remain calm and resolute as they attend their normal lectures: On another note he retreated the issue of delay in publishing of academic results which is becoming a culture in the school and in order hand stampede the graduates from going for service as at when due.
He promised to expedite actions towards ensuring prompt publishing of result as at when due.
Finally, the SUG PRESIDENT, showed his concern on the exploitation of Nigerian students in the polytechnic community, and Rector gave his words, that all has been put to a stop, hence, any student who is being charge of any other illegal fee against the academic convention stands to report even without the declaring of identity.
He went ahead to say, that the management team Can not exist without the students. Students interest stands to be their priority.
