NBC bans Falz “This is Nigeria”, Olamide “See Mary, See Jesus” And Wande Coal “Isakaba” song
The Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) has banned “This is Nigeria” a viral song by Nigerian artiste Falz for vulgar lyrics.
A statement from the regulatory body stated that the song is laced with vulgar lyrics citing example of “This is Nigeria, everybody be criminal”.
Falz was not the only artiste whose song was banned as Wande Coal and Olamide’s songs “Isakaba” and “See Mary, See Jesus” were also banned respectively.
The statement added that Wande’s song had a vulgar line “Girl you dey make me kolo” while Olamide used the names “Mary” and “Jesus” casually in the song. As such, Coal’s song contravened 3.13.2.2c and that of Olamide contravened Section 4.3.1 of the corporation’s laws.
The use of these vulgar words made the songs “unfit” for radio. Therefore if after repeated warnings, both verbal and written, any station continued playing the songs, it would pay a fine of N100, 000.
