Mason Mount Is Not Happy With Chelsea’s Kai Havertz Transfer
Chelsea star Mason Mount is unhappy at the arrival of Kai Havertz, according to reports.
The Blues recently signed the Germany international from Bayer Leverkusen in a huge £72million deal. And Mount’s place in the team is now under serious threa.
Chelsea have enjoyed a sensational transfer window this year, with Frank Lampard banned from making signings 12 months ago.
The Blues acted with speed to bring in Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner, who joined from Ajax and RB Leipzig respectively.
And, in the time since, Chelsea have made further signings with Ben Chilwell, Malang Sarr, Thiago Silva and Havertz all moving to Stamford Bridge.
Now, however, Bild allege that Mount is unhappy at the arrival of Havertz.
Unlike Silva, he’s yet to send a welcome message on his Twitter account.
While the former Leverkusen star is capable of playing on the wing and in a ‘False Nine’ role, he’s at his blockbuster best when deployed in an attacking midfield position.
Havertz scored 12 goals and registered six assists for Leverkusen last season, establishing himself as one of the best young talents in world football in the process.
Mount, meanwhile, found the net seven times and clocked up six assists from 37 league matches – while also scoring once in the FA Cup.
He’s hoping to further cement himself as a Chelsea starter this season, especially with Euro 2020 on the horizon at the end of the campaign.
But Mount may now struggle for minutes and will have to up the ante if he’s to keep his role in Frank Lampard’s starting XI for the foreseeable future.
Bild’s report is at odds with Mount’s positive attitude over competition for places.
Speaking earlier this year, he said: “For me, it’s about having that same attitude I have had since I was six and making sure I never lose it.
“You just have to fight. You know Chelsea can always buy £60 million or £70m or £80m players that are world-class. They want to come here and take my place.
“Just because I am an academy boy and young, that doesn’t mean anything. But the mentality I have means I won’t be pushed over easily.
“I will fight for my position and keep working hard. At a club as big as Chelsea you have to have that mentality. It always stuck with me. It’s why I am here in the first place.”
Meanwhile, ESPN pundit Craig Burley thinks Chelsea are still defensively weak despite signing two defenders so far.
