Man United confirm Lisandro Martinez deal with Ajax

Manchester United have reached an agreement with Ajax over the transfer of Lisandro Martinez.

The defender flew into England this weekend to finalise a move that is set to be a five-year deal and will be worth in the region of €55m.

A statement read: “Manchester United is delighted to announce the club has reached agreement with Ajax for the transfer of Argentine international defender Lisandro Martinez, subject to medical, to player terms being finalised, and to UK visa requirements.”

Martinez will become manager Erik ten Hag’s third summer signing after Tyrell Malacia and Christian Eriksen.

United have backed Ten Hag over the recruitment department with the expected addition of Martinez. The United recruitment analysts recommended Pau Torres as the ideal left-footed centre-back to target but Ten Hag preferred Martinez, having coached him for three years at Ajax. Martinez won two titles and the Dutch cup with Ajax.
