Lennox Lewis makes a prediction on Mike Tyson and Jake Paul fight

Legendary British boxer Lennox Lewis thinks Mike Tyson, his former opponent, will defeat Jake Paul when they square off in the ring next month.

On November 15, YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul and heavyweight superstar Tyson square off at AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas.

Iron Mike, who is 31 years Paul’s senior, has not competed professionally since he left the ring in 2005 after losing three of his last four bouts. With his record mostly consisting of former MMA fighters, Paul, 27, has won 10 of his 11 boxing matches, including seven by knockout. His only loss came against Tommy Fury last year.

Given the significant age gap, the fight has attracted widespread criticism which heightened when the fight was postponed in May due to the former champion’s poor health.

Three weeks out from fight night, Lennox, who knocked out Tyson in 2002, believes his old rival can teach Paul a boxing lesson if he is ‘good shape’.

‘I would hope he would go into a fight where he would win,’ Lewis told TMZ. ‘He’s a boxer, he knows how to protect himself, he knows how to throw body shots, he knows how to cut off the ring.

‘He is younger than me so it really depends on his mobility, whether he can move fast around the ring when he’s going after a younger guy. We will have to see.

‘I haven’t seen him lately to know if he can take it, but I have seen him looking muscular, so of course he can take it if he is in good shape.’

Tyson briefly returned to the ring in November 2020 for an exhibition bout against Roy Jones Jr. The following year, rematches against old rivals Evander Holyfield and Lewis were discussed.

In 2002, the two giants had to be pulled apart in one of the most explosive face-offs in boxing history with their press conference brawl in Las Vegas almost resulting in the fight being called off.

As part of the ill-tempered build-up, Tyson famously uttered the words ‘I want to each his children’ in reference to Lewis after his 40-second victory over Lou Savarese in Glasgow in 2000.

Lewis would go onto knock out Tyson in the eighth round. 22 years later, Lewis has not ruled out a rematch should the New Yorker get through Paul.

‘Let’s see how he makes out in this fight first. I have spoken to Mike, just about fighting. Let’s hope his health is ok. You can’t see things on the outside that may be affecting you on the inside. I wouldn’t want to say he is okay then all of a sudden something happens.’
