Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has praised the 44 local government areas in the state for holding their local elections in a peaceful manner.

Following his vote in the Gwale LG on Saturday, the governor made the statement at the KANSIEC headquarters.

He sent his gratitude to the chairmen of the electoral commissions in various states who kept an eye on the polls.

The governor noted that the elections, which took place in 484 wards across the 44 local governments, were the freest in Kano’s history.

“This election is the freest in the history of Kano”, he said.

He assured that those elected would serve the people’s interests and that his administration would ensure good governance.

The governor commended the chairman and KANSIEC staff for ensuring the conduct of free and fair elections in Kano.

“When it comes to election there shouldn’t be any impunity and we should ensure that people are allowed to vote their mandate.

“I am appealing to the judiciary to continue being neutral when it comes to elections, it is not good for our judiciary to be partisan.

“Even though the Kano state government is the only Government which came into office under the platform of NNPP, we shouldn’t be intimidated, people of Kano are peace-loving people but if pushed to the wall, they can react.”

“We’ve seen what happens in Rivers, so we took proactive measures to ensure that a similar scenario does not happen in Kano.

Yusuf further urged the opposition to accept defeat, citing his party’s strong voter support.

“I want to appeal to the opposition to always accept defeat as we have the upper hand in terms of voter support,” he said.

An official of the Sokoto State Electoral Commission, Aliyu Sulaiman, also commended the peaceful conduct of the elections.
