I’m ready for Bafana clash – Samuel Chukwueze
Villarreal teenage sensation Samuel Chukwueze has fired a subtly warning to South Africa ahead of their crucial African Cup of Nations clash with Nigeria at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg on Saturday.
The in-form 19-year-old has been called up to bolster the Super Eagles attack thanks to his impressive performance for the Yellow Submarines which has seen him cement his place in the team’s starting line-up after being promoted from the ‘B’ team.
Speaking in Asaba before the team departed South Africa, the former Arsenal target expressed his delight for the opportunity to play for the Super Eagles and vowed to give his best if called upon by coach Genort Rohr to ensure Nigeria book the group’s sole ticket to the 2019 AFCON holding in Cameroon.
He said: “I’m very happy to be called up to represent my country, it’s a very big honour and I thank the coach for believing in me. I feel at home in the team and it’s great to have my friends from the Golden Eaglets Kelechi (Nwakali) and Victor (Osimhen) also in the squad.
“I know the match is a very crucial one against a tough side, but we’re also a very strong team so I believe we can get the needed result.
“The most important thing is for the team to win and to make ourn country proud but if I get the opportunity I’ll do my best just like I’ve been doing at my club to help Nigeria qualify,” Chukwueze concluded.
Chukwueze is a former junior international who alongside Kelechi Nwakali and Victor Osimhen helped Nigeria win the 2015 U17 World Cup in Chile where he bagged the Bronze Boot.
The 19-year-old Nigerian is not shy to get on the ball as the stats show from his first two games in La Liga, firing off a total of 10 shots and completing five of his 10 dribble attempts.
