I hate to play same role repeatedly — Actress Bimbo Akintola
Bimbo Akintola, a veteran Nollywood actress, has offered insightful counsel to aspiring artists, telling them to pursue their own path and not follow trends.
She emphasized the value of originality and long-term planning in an interview with Saturday Beats, urging young people to put their own aspirations ahead of social expectations.
“My advice to young talents is to stop being Gen Z or Gen X or millennial and focus on what they want for their lives. Don’t follow everyone else; stand out. Do something for you. Don’t follow the trends; do what is most important. Think about your life; nobody told me this when I was younger. Have a five-year plan. That way, you will know if you are failing or succeeding.”
Akintola also added that she hates being ‘stuck’ playing the same type of character. The accomplished actress, known for her roles in numerous Nollywood films, emphasised the importance of being able to move from one character to another in order to tell different stories.
“One of the things I hate is being stuck; I don’t want to be stuck playing one character. I think it’s important to be able to move from character to character so one can tell different stories. Being stuck means you can only tell one kind of story. What I want is to be able to touch as many lives as possible, and to do that, one has to be different people.”
